It was a heavy question for a nine-year-old. He reminded her of those children that she had seen in the apocalypse, orphans that were left to care for their younger siblings.
She had also seen many children his age, caring for older parents and relatives that were sick or crippled. Most of them had been skin and bones, barely getting by themselves. It made her wonder if these children had survived the apocalypse.
Had they been killed by natural disasters or monsters? Had they awakened or fallen prey to cannibalistic starving adults?
In this life, she would save as many of those children as she could.
For now, she needed to clarify things with Ariel. Hades beat her there.
"Ariel, buddy. I love how you look out for your brothers, but I don't want you to make it your whole life. There are adults in the family for that. I am here, so are your grandparents and some of your aunts and uncles. Sunshine is here too now; she will help out when she can."
