Chapter 15: Oliver's True colours

The scent of blood hit my nose as Ray opened the door, i stood behind him watching his back. The kid barely flinched as he slipped through the crack, i followed him silently before shutting the door.

Screams of agony filled my ears, i turned my head to see him, the pig. That foul stain on the other half of my bloodline. Every time im reminded of his presence in this world it makes me want to rip out that half entirely.

The scum ripped into her, whip marks marred her bare back. Rusty nails contrasting her beautiful palms. He laughed as he licked up drops of blood from the bedsheets.

I couldn't watch this horror, why? Why would you choose such beautiful woman to maim. The outside world is covered in evils you could use your 'skills' on. So why them?

I took a step forward to stop him, to stop this monster. Yet before i could Ray moved...

Ray dashed forward in a blur, his eyes moist. 'I-it can't be right? it has to be a mistake. There's no way its him...'

The girl beneath the fat man moaned weakly. "O-Oliver please, no more. i beg." She could barely squeeze those words out, her lips were cut and blood soaked her throat and mouth. untold horror's had happened to the poor woman.

She felt the heavy weight on top of her vanish in a instant.

Ray tackled into the Fat man atop her. Pushing him to the floor. "IT IS YOU. OLIVER... why?" ray asked his voice getting weaker with every word, tears glistened in the corner of his eyes, dripping down onto Oliver's face.

Varin walked over to the woman, helping her pluck out the nails and dressing her wounds with the blanket. The pity within his eyes immense. 'Such a unlucky girl.'

Oliver finally caught up with what's happening, "who are you! How DARE you intrude. I paid dearly to make sure i wouldn't be interrupted. Do you know who i am, i could get you two kil-"

The Oliver Ray knew and The Oliver he remembered were pure opposites. His mind played back to all the times this Fat man would slip extra money into his check, how he'd always encourage Ray with taking rest days.

He'd even gone so far as to offer some paid leave after awhile. Ray still persisted and the two of them grew close.

The one who raised him when he had nothing, who taught him affection. Not in kind words and physical love. But in care, in silent gifts when in need. In direction when lost.

And how that same man was enjoying the torture of the helpless. How he was relishing in her lack of control.

Ray cut off His words. "I-i.." Ray sobbed between words. "I viewed you as a father you bastard, what is this. Why are you ruining the perfect image i had." He choked on his own phlegm. "Why, why are you ruining EVERYTHING?"

Ray felt something inside his chest snap. 'yes i said it before, anything to level up right. Such a kind father surely would want to help his child?'

"R-ray?" From Oliver's angle he could see that same head of white fluffy hair. Paired with the words spoken. The mans face went pale. "T-this is.."

An six-inch Carving blade slipped from Ray's cloak, small enough to conceal without an issue. And without thinking he drew the blade across Oliver's neck. Blood splattering across the floor from the force of that slash...

[You killed a Common beast: Human]

'That's right... your just a common beast.' Ray's heart felt empty, as if something extremely important became missing in this moment. Something he wouldn't find again.

The duo left that night in silence. Tears dripped down Ray's face, The dense stench of the sewers assaulted his nose yet his gaze never wavered, Forever locked on his next destination. His heart would never waver again.

...

The double suns cast their light down upon a desolate merchant's stand. The merchandise and crates had been taken by petty thieves and rats during the morning, once the population realised Oliver would never show up again.

Ray stood guard at the merchant district, a job he never thought he'd do, but just today. 'Maybe he'll show up, tell me it was just a dream.' The boy's eyes were bloodshot, his face just as red.

But alas Oliver was destined to never go anywhere ever again, his dirty corpse rotting in a ditch where it belonged.

'I can't keep moping around, i killed him. And he deserved it. So why, why does it hurt so bad?' Ray was laying in bed, the usual snoring from his roommates nowhere to be heard.

'I-is it because even after all i did, still nothing? not a single exp after all of that. I wish Varin did it. He wouldn't have minded killing the beast after all.' His mind gradually settled. 'So it seems monster's. And only powerful monsters are the only thing left on the checklist right? Maybe Rexar could give some experience...'

The morning arrived and Ray awoke to find both Elana and Levik waiting for him besides his bed. "wake up, hurry. The governor summoned us." Levik said his haste.

The duo had already changed into their respective armor set's. Levik was wearing a black leather suit with green leather gauntlets and a metal chest-cover. And Elana was equipped in her blood-red Royal knight set.

Ray changed into his Armor, mostly leather like Levik's with metal thigh-guards and shoulder plates.
