Constalia

On a rainy morning, Haku gathered Alexander and Yue around a map he bought with the money he got by selling some of the stones he got from Yue's money, not seeming to be an issue anymore.

"Alright, listen up," Haku pointed to a city marked "Constalia" on the map. "This is where our next phase begins. Constalia is home to the Red Tower, a prestigious magic academy. Lucky for us, the Duke's influence extends there."

Yue, ever the eager student, leaned forward, her eyes wide with curiosity. "Magic? Why magic? I'm pretty sure I can do the things they do if it's just shooting fireballs?"

Haku chuckled. "Hmm, they use a different system and are not bound by simple rules. Fireballs, ice shards, and lightning strikes are just the beginning. Magic can do much more honestly if there is something that you can't explain exists, it's probably magic, don't see it as just shooting stuff. And strategically speaking, a mage would be a valuable asset." He winked. "Think of 'em as walking paintbrushes that can color this world the way we need."

Alexander was fixed on the map. "I agree with Yue, a swordsman seems more impressive to me.

"First," Haku continued, "Fly over to the duke without being seen and tell him that we need a way to enroll Alex into the school."

'The academy's probably got star pupils. Let the scouting begin.'

"Why can't Yue go?"

Haku looked at Alex as if he was hurt that Alex didn't see for who this was. "Alex, don't you have a goal you need to achieve? You may be an orphan, but not only are you better than the merchants when it comes to numbers, but you also have great reading comprehension. While you think that the sword is the only way to fulfill what you seek, first do this: I will find you a teacher for the sword in the meantime."

Alex looked somewhat puzzled at Haku.

"I shouldn't be surprised anymore. Did you always know?

No, it doesn't matter if what you say is true, I will go no matter what."

'looks like i was right he is the goddamn protaganist of this shity story'

"I always think of ways to help my people."

Yue angrily interjected, "Why do I have to fly there while it's raining ?" stomping her feet, looking like a bratty child.

Both Haku and Alex finally relaxed.

'Thanks, Yue, I didn't know how to continue that.'

haku had some idea of the level of magic in this world, the fundamentals, Control, channeling, efficiency where just like he had read about in the books he got from the merchants, but in reality it wasnt the spellcasting that made his heart race but the mages and alchemist were working on aircrafts and piloting was on the table again.

'Who would've thought I could get to pilot again if I get access to their research, I might even help them to make one for commercial use.'

"Yue, choose to fly once in the rain or go to school."

Yue looked terrified, the word school bringing back memories of the endless cultivation lessons she had in the sect.

"I'm not doing this because I don't like school, but if it helps you and Alex, fine."

Yue puffed out her cheeks slightly. "But please find something for me to do outside of being a messenger, without Alex, it will be boring here?"

Alex was touched by those words, not thinking she would miss him.

"Patience, young padawan," Haku said playfully. "I have big plans for you."

He turned to Alexander. "Alex, I need you to start researching the Red Tower itself. Its history, and the present figures think who to recruit into our little group of teacher students, all fair game. I will go to Oakhaven and look for basic spell books for you ."

"Understood," Alexander replied, his voice resolute.

A few days later, Haku received a message from Duke Maris. It was delivered by a stern-faced knight, emblazoned with the Maris family crest.

"The Duke bids you attend him at your earliest convenience," the knight said, his voice formal and respectful.

Haku, Yue, and Alexander exchanged glances. It was too swift; the Duke was already putting their agreement into motion.

When the trio arrived at the Duke's manor, they were ushered into his study. The Duke, as usual, was all business.

"I have good news for you, Haku," he said, his voice surprisingly cordial. "I have used my influence to secure admission for Alexander into the Red Tower. He will begin his studies there in two weeks."

Alexander's eyes widened in surprise and gratitude. "Thank you, Duke Maris," he said, bowing his head.

Haku offered a polite nod, internally pleased. It seemed their plan was progressing nicely.

But the Duke was not finished. He cleared his throat and continued, "And there is more news. The Red Tower has requested your presence as well, Haku."

Haku frowned. "Requested my presence? How do they know about me? Did you tell them?"

The Duke smiled, a rare and unsettling sight. "They have offered you the position of instructor."

'damn old fox ignoring my question'

'Wait, what did he just say about me being a what...'

Haku stared at him, dumbfounded. "Instructor? how do they know about me?"

The Duke shrugged. "They believe you possess certain…qualifications that make you suitable for the role, not to mention it's a special instructor role, meaning it will be only for a short time."

'Still testing me, are you?'

Haku couldn't believe his ears. He, a man who knew less about magic than the average adult, was being offered a teaching position at one of the most prestigious magic academies in the land. It was problematic, to say the least. And yet…

A slow smile spread across Haku's face. This was not planned, but he'd be able to observe the students, assess their talents, and, most importantly, influence them. He could subtly nudge them to his side.

'The risk is high, but why settle for one or two mages if I can have an army of them?'

"Tell the Red Tower that I accept their offer," Haku said, his voice brimming with newfound confidence. "I will be honored to serve as an instructor."

He looked at Yue and Alexander, his eyes hinting at mischievous thoughts. This was going to be interesting. Very interesting indeed. He needed a new plan, but it was worth it.

'Now, how do I pretend to teach magic?'
