"You never told me how your date went"

We were sprawled on my bed, staring up at the ceiling in comfortable silence when it suddenly occurred to me, that I never asked.

She let out a long sigh, it seemed she had been holding it for a very long time.

I rolled onto my side and propped my head up with my left hand so that I could look her in the face.

"That bad, huh?"

She mirrored me and in seconds we were on our sides staring at each other.

"He told me he's in love with someone else. That he only agreed to take me out on a date to be nice"

She looked like she was about to cry.

"But you came back very late, I think?"

"Nah, I came back thirty minutes later. You had already crashed when I got home"

I let out a sigh of my own. I was not great at consoling people. I mean, what do you say to someone who got dumped by someone they were planning to dump?

I didn't have anything meaningful to say, so I hugged her instead. If I had said something, it would have bordered on the lines of "I told you so...", and that would only make matters worse, knowing the personality my bestie dominates.

"I think I might have liked him in the end. But there are way hotter men out there" she said with the brightest smile on her face.

And just like that she was back to being her nasty self and all the pity I felt evaporated like a spilled drop of ethanol.

"I think it's time for you to leave my room" I said rolling my eyes which only made her to bust into fits of laughter. She didn't stop laughing until she rolled off the bed and landed on the floor with a loud thud.

"I'm joking, chill. You could've seen the look on your face"

I rolled my eyes again as she got up from the floor and rubbed her butt slightly.

"You're not going to work today?" she asked as she headed for the door.

"I will, but later in the day. I don't have any clients at the moment, just a few paper work to complete" I let out a tired sigh and collapsed on the bed.

"I don't envy you at all" she said with a slight shake of her head as she left the room banging the door shut.

I groaned into my pillow out of exasperation. Rolling on my back, I closed my eyes and spread out my arms, it was said to reduce tension, and planned to remain like that till it was time to leave for work.

Three cups of coffee and two paper works completed, I was very much ready to go home

Three cups of coffee and two paper works completed, I was very much ready to go home. Luke didn't come in to work today, he called in sick, I made a mental note to stop at his house on my way home to check on him.

I was stuffing my stuff into my backpack ready to head home when my phone started buzzing in my jean pocket. I fished it out with a sigh, which immediately turned to a smile when I saw Donovan's name on the screen.

"Hey old man" I greeted as soon as the call connected.

I heard him chuckle slightly before he lets out a sigh

"you don't call to check up on your old man again or even come to visit"

"I've been busy at work" I let out a tired sigh as I sat down on my chair.

"You mean busy stirring trouble" He said softly. "I watch the news you know" He added.

I facepalmed myself as I stood up again.

"Please hold on"

I grabbed my earbuds from my table plugged it in my ear and connected the call to it.

"Are you still there?" I asked placing my phone back into my pocket.

"Yeah. I'm going nowhere"

I smiled. Donovan is one of my favorite persons in the world, I could as well call him my savior. Not only did he take me in after my parents were murdered, he thought me how to fight and defend myself and also how to control my powers. He has really taken up the parent role, and he was great at it.

"You know, I was only doing my job. I had to rescue the girl. She was the daughter of a client"

I explained as I finished stuffing the last of my stuff into my backpack and zipped it up.

"You should be careful. We can't have people finding out about you. It could be dangerous"

I heard the worry so evident in his voice.

"I promise, I'll be fine"

I was about to get into my car when I saw a young intern running towards me. His short hair falling in bangs around his head. He pushed up his glasses as he came closer.

"Mr. Leonetti would like to see you in his office" He said in between gasps.

I nodded slowly as I put my backpack into the backseat and locked the car.

"I have to go. I'll come see you during the weekend"

"Is that a deal?"

I smiled as I replied "That's a promise"

I disconnected the call and walked back into the building.

Mr. Leonetti never summons anyone into his office except it was really serious. He was the boss and always bragged about how he built SPS all by himself. Nearing sixty, the only thing that could tell his age is his grey beards. If that was dyed black, you won't be able to tell his age at all. He was still strong with an athletic build. He is a really nice man, except when he is angry.

As I stepped into his office, I prayed he was in the best of moods.

"Jada" He said with a wide smile on his face as soon as he saw me. There was a man sitting opposite him with a black baseball cap. He had his back to me, so I couldn't see his face.

"You asked to see me?"

"Yeah. You have a new client" He said gesturing to the man opposite him, who still had his back to me.

"He is a very important personality; I want you to take this job seriously" He repeated the same thing he said to me when he introduced me to the senator as my client.

I just nodded my head.

"Nice to meet you, Mr....."

"Arnold Rossman" the man said finally turning to face me. He stood up slowly, towering above me as he got to his full height.

The breath was instantly knocked from my lungs as I stared into those insanely blue eyes again. He was even more handsome than I could remember. My heart felt like it would jump out of my chest. When I realized I was staring, starting to make a fool of myself, I forced myself to say something...

"Nice...Nice to meet you" I whispered in a voice that sounded nothing like mine.

He just stared at me wordlessly for a while, then he smiled and I admitted to myself at that point that this man would be the death of me

"McBride, you have a visitor" A guard said banging on his cell gate

The gate slides open and Dante stepped out looking scruffy. His orange jumpsuit had a weird stain at the front and his hands were clasped together at the front with a handcuff.

He followed the guard silently as he led him to a private room.

Dante's steps faltered as he stepped into the room and he jumped when he heard the loud click of the door as it was shut.

The man's nose ring glistened under the dim light and his eyes held their usual wrath.

"I heard you were arrested, I decided to come pay you a visit" His lips curved into an evil smile.

In his entire forty-two years of life, Dante McBride had never seen a man as evil as the man sitting in front of him, with his evil grin and fiery eyes. If the devil had a son, it would be him.

The man stood up and walked the short distance to where Dante was seated, he stood behind him and Dante had to stop himself from looking back even though he could hear his own heart thumping in his chest.

"I don't need to remind you of what would happen if you snitch" the man whispered into Dante's ears, his breath causing him to shiver.

"I promise I won't say anything" Dante whispered back in a shaky breath

The man stood up straight and headed for the door. As he got to the door, he paused in his stride and looked Dante in the eyes.

"I trust you not to. I know where your family live. And I would enjoy killing every one of them"

He banged twice on the door and Dante heard the loud click again as the door opened.

Without another word, the man walked out leaving Dante to wallow in his own depression.
