Chapter 6: Storming the Base

"Oh great Regulus, this day is such a gloomy one~" He said with a sigh in his tone. "Just like every other day on this planet. It should be natural that even on this kind of planet you would some sunny days at least once in a while."

This was the thing that he was whining about daily while doing his job monitoring the nearby area through the magical holographic radar in order to keep any hostiles at bay. This is much more an important issue since a General-class ship is docked at the base's sky deck. But he can't just help it, as the skies is still looming as ever before with the opportunity for sunlight is quite varied at best. Mindigo is especially affected by this, an Alkatiros-class Magistoid of the vine element. His body has browning on its sides to a point that he might need more water to drink. One Magistoid put a hand over his shoulder in an effort to calm him down. "Come on, brighten up brother. As gloomy as it is, we need to take this job seriously. Let's kick it up a notch, okay." Vasakiri smiled in encouragement, a Majiros-class Magistoid who is android and robotic in appearance. He takes care of system management, making sure all systems are in 100% capacity at all times.

"Hmm. Okay." He sighed, but relented at last. He has no choice on the matter either and started to monitor the holographic radar more carefully. Until, a beeping sound is heard which catches his attention. He looked at the radar and saw a blip showing up on the screen. "Bogeys inbound! Bogeys inbound!! Hostiles approaching!!" Mindigo shouted at the command room. Everyone immediately came to their stations as multiple bogeys are approaching the base. Then the entrance opened, revealing the commander of the base: A large regal-looking robotic Magistoid with golden accents in its skyblue armor and a tassel from the top of his head. "What's the situation?" He asked with an air of superiority in his voice. "There are bogeys inbound from the west direction. Estimated around 45 vehicles are approaching with only 3 are Magistoid issue." One of the Magistoids manning the station reported. The commander put a finger on his metallic chin as he ponders the situation.

"They are most likely to mount an assault to this base, Commander Rishidu." Mindigo said as he glance upon the radar in intense anticipation. Rishidu put downs his fingers with an air of haughtiness coming upon him as he said "The Magistoid Defendatus. Hmph! They are still kicking around, I see. Barely." He said his last word with contempt in his tone as he raised his hand to issue his orders. "Prepare the siege weapons! Man every station above the walls and send the Alkatiros-class attack squad at the front! Crush those insects!!" His command is heard throughout the base through the command link channel and all of his subordinates under his command obeyed his command in order to defend the base. After Rishidu enforced his command to all of his subordinates, questions came up in his mind.

'What would be the reason they're attacking this base now?'

'Could it be because of the ship that has been docked here?'

'Do they wanted to hijack it.'

'A propesterous notion, considering the remaining members of the Magistoid Defendatus is nill to none.'

Those thoughts came over him, pondering what could they be planning. It would not matter though, because there would a severity not just for him, but for everyone involved if anything happened to the base. Especially the ship. The Rex Regulus commanded all of them to guard those ships with their lives and that's what they're gonna do if they wanted to lived long enough. With that confirmation in his mind, Rishidu and all of them are vehemently preparing to an efficient rate for the upcoming assault.

The doors opened at the top of the walls, Magistoids pouring and lining up with wands and their hands pointing down below readying to cast a spell, while a group of Alkatiros of both classes came out of the camel's point for the frontal defense. The vehicles of the enemy approaching the base suddenly started to scatter in both left and right as they started to shoot the place up. The Alkatiros brigade have some of its members split up to deal with the intruders, some are lifting boulders with their magic while throwing them out and the rest sprouting huge vines to ensnare and eliminate the enemy.

_________

"So they're onto us now, huh." The commander said as he put down his binoculars while standing at the vehicle he's on near the battlefield and picked up his communicator to relay a message to his soldiers in the battlefield. "Everyone. The enemy is starting to mount an counteroffensive. Commence Operation Blazedown!" He commanded to all of them as he sit down on the vehicle and took on his enhanced riffle. "Let's go." Ardugo said with a determination in his tone. "Yeah. Let's." He said with determination in return as Ardugo punched the pedal and drove off.

_________

"Whoa!!" One soldier screamed as he evaded his vehicle from a huge boulder being thrown out in his way. It has been this way from the last minute. The boulders that the Alkatiros brigade has throwing at them is at a relentless pace as it managed to derail some of the vehicles. The soldiers from those vehicles managed to got up from the wreck and started shooting with their weapons up. "Come on! Can't get a clear shot with this! Never ceases to torture us in the last minute." A sniper snarked while he positions himself upwards from the exposed roof the vehicle he's been on while his buddy on the wheel evades the boulders that rain down on them. "This is just nuts. This is just so not fair! Why on every beings in the universe to have powers, it was monsters who had them!" He exclaimed while he's putting the metal pedal while driving.

The sniper managed to shoot some Magistoid up top, with some difficulty along the way, but he still managed to get the targets. Until... "Arghh!!!" The soldier on the driver's wheel shouted as a boulder landed in front of them, flinging them outside of their vehicle. "Ugh." The sniper grunted as he got up, with his ally nearby getting up as well. He was gonna ask if he's alright if not for the boulders that is raining down on them, threatening to crush them. That was until a vehicle stopped in front of them, its passenger getting down and closing the door as he stand up in front of them: Kambali. He then proceeded to bury both of his hands to the ground and it rumbled. The earth shattered open, where huge vines came forth growing out of the ground as it forms a thick wall, shielding them from the boulders above.

"Are you alright there, comrades?" Kambali asked with a passion. "Never better." The sniper replied. "Yeah. Yeah. Just... TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!!" His friend said in a nervous wreck, which put a smile in Kambali's face. He then proceed to unravel the top part of the vine wall to grab the boulders still raining down on them and throw them back to the enemy. The other soldiers nearby came over them and rallied with Kambali as they proceed to shoot under wall's protection.

The garrison that went to the other direction from where Kambali's spot is fired their guns while dodging the barrage of spells blasting all over them. These shots has been hitting their targets even from a high and far distance due to its magical enhancements, giving them some edge at this battle. "Ugh!" a Magistoid grunted as she is hit by the shots from below and collapsing on the spot. "These stinking humans won't just learn their place! Just drop your knees, dead or alive!" a shorter Magistoid who was near at the fallen female grunted as he cast his spells multiple, depleting his magic power but still charging with his Magistoid brethren who was much more larger than him.

Echeron is driving with the soldiers with him, assisting them in their battle in which a volley of spells rain down on them and would overwhelm the whole squad. Within a split second, he brought out his bronze-colored wand and chanted his spell. "Prostepte Sproxtekai!" As he uttered those words, a barrier of light appeared and washed above them, protecting all of them from the spells, which were rebounded back to those above the citadel's walls and inflicting severe damage at them. "Thanks dude!" one soldier said to him as Echeron turned his head and said "Total buckshot! No biggies there, I got this." All that said with a haughty energy.

Meanwhile, the remaining Alkatiros brigade members that was left defending the front gate from the attacking force up front. They're managing to even up the playing field, until suddenly all the vehicles dispersed from the middle. This bewildered the brigade members, not noticing a Magistoid standing from a lone vehicle from afar. He is apparently tinkering at a cannon of sort mounted at the top of his vehicle. "Manalevels at 100%. Wind pressure: Normal. Force output: Full Capacity." He is priming his hand at the trigger while he calibrates the cannon, filling it up with magic from his hands. The cannon hums. The nozzle is lighting up. The ground is shaking. And then...

BOOM!!!!

A huge stream of light travelled straight from the battlefield, striking straight through the font gate of the citadel and eviscerated it open, eliminating anything on its path . This sends the personnel in panic as Enjiros from his vantage point, looks from afar and cracked a smirk in his face and said a quip for the day. "Buckshot."

"The fortress door is open! Storm in!" The commander shouted as they started to pour into the fortress with their vehicles in tow alongside the Defendatus. Their entrance has met with immediate resistance, Magistoids casting spells from their metallic palms and the human resistance retaliate with heavy shots, each side started to wrack up casualties on both sides. But the resistance is taking a much worse hit than the enemy, few bloodied and eviscerated bodies lie on the floor and many taking severe injuries. It would be a death sentence to those who have been severely injured to remain in the battlefield, that was until a speeding figure came over in a dark blue and in an instant all of their injuries are healed.

"What in the- they're-" the Magistoid didn't managed to finish his sentence as he was slashed on his metallic chest, bearing claw-like marks that leaks his ambrosia out. He fell down screaming and before his comrades noticed his plight, they've all been attacked by the same dark blue that healed the soldiers. The blur stopped for a moment, revealing it a dark panther-like robot: Kofalu. He's been the one doing all of this to the soldiers of both sides and he executed his healing and ferocious power with efficiency. He then leapt again on all fours doing healing and evisceration all at the same time. He looked upon at the Magistoids that he's been attacking, pity forming in his feline-like robotic face. 'These poor lads.' he thought. 'They've been throwing their lives away at this war. Such a travesty.' His musings is cut short when more Magistoids came firing down on them, a sigh breathed from Kofalu's mouth. 'But for cannon fodders, they are useful.' He the proceeded to pounce at the newly arrived enemies as the battle is still raging on. The curtains of the prologue isn't rescinded yet.
