Chapter 23: Yin Yang Eye

As frigid chakra surged into his eyes, causing a sensation like needles pricking his vision, Uchiha Aozora instantly understood what had happened.

He had awakened the Sharingan.

Slightly surprised, he also felt a sense of fortune.

"Heh, so this is how it awakens? Could it be because I deeply love my clan? At least it wasn't triggered by watching loved ones die tragically."

He let out a bitter laugh, though it did little to lighten his mood.

A surge of hatred rose within him toward Fugaku Uchiha.

As he pondered ways to undermine Fugaku and take his place as clan leader, the Heavenly Book suddenly reacted violently, absorbing all the icy chakra from his eyes.

With the cold chakra gone, Aozora's pupils returned to normal. At the same time, he became aware of his earlier abnormal state.

"Damn! So this is the Sharingan? It actually amplifies negative emotions."

"I barely have enough time studying ninjutsu already—why would I ever want to become clan leader?"

"If this is just the ordinary Sharingan, what kind of changes would happen if I awakened the Mangekyou while under the influence of such cold energy, especially having already lost someone dear?"

A chill ran down Aozora's spine.

The Sharingan was genuinely dangerous. Had it not been for the Heavenly Book absorbing that frigid chakra, he wouldn't have realized he'd unknowingly been influenced by the Sharingan's effects on his mind.

Uchiha Aozora quickly returned home, sat cross-legged, and eagerly awaited the Heavenly Book's gift.

"At least when his Sharingan awakened, the Heavenly Book had only drawn away the cold chakra. If it had absorbed all his chakra, that would've been terrible."

"If my Sharingan evolved during a battle one day, it wouldn't be leveling up mid-combat—it'd be signing my death warrant!"

Thinking about the drawbacks of the Heavenly Book and how to avoid them in the future consumed his thoughts, and time passed swiftly.

Soon, cold chakra flowed out from the Wordless Divine Book.

Knowing how dangerous this frigid chakra could be, Aozora dared not let it enter his eyes again.

Using the Dao Yin Lian Qi method, he guided the chakra through several cycles of circulation until its chilling aura dissipated, then slowly returned the energy to his dantian.

After handling the cold chakra, Aozora didn't rush to examine the Heavenly Book.

Instead, he meditated cross-legged, waiting until his mindset calmed before visualizing the Heavenly Book.

Within his spiritual sea, the blank Page floated alone at the center.

Three ancient written characters in pale golden hues appeared newly in the center of the Page, drawing in nearby golden essence Droplets.

[Yin Yang Eye]?

Staring at the three radiant ancient characters, Aozora looked utterly baffled and muttered under his breath, "This isn't some mystical ghost tale! I have no interest in spirits or deities!"

The [Yin Yang Eye] was a supernatural ability described in folk tales from his previous life—a special vision enabling one to see spirits or other supernatural phenomena beyond normal sight.

Though powerful, this particular ability might not necessarily prove useful to Aozora right now.

Nonetheless, Aozora focused intently on the newly emerged characters.

As his consciousness touched the words [Yin Yang Eye], waves of knowledge and inheritance flooded his mind.

Characters formed paragraphs within his heart,

while scenes flickered rapidly across his mind's eye.

After a long while, Uchiha Aozora finally opened his eyes and grinned. "So this is the Yin Yang Eye."

This "Yin Yang Eye" was completely different from what he had imagined!

According to inherited knowledge, all spiritual eyes were divided into Yin Eyes and Yang Eyes.

Yang Eyes were real—the physical eyes—capable of improving vision range, focus, and dynamic visual acuity through qi purification.

Yin Eyes were illusory—the spiritual eyes—related to one's consciousness. Cultivating the Yin Eye enabled internal perception, spirit communication, and seeing through illusions.

When Yin and Yang unite, they form the Yin Yang Eye. At this stage, the physical eyes not only retain improved vision and motion perception, but also gain the ability to sense spiritual energy, souls, and even abstract forces like fate.

"The Sharingan and Mangekyo Sharingan should both belong to the 'Yin Yang Eye' category. However, the Mangekyo's spiritual power is too strong, while its Yang component—physical eyesight—is insufficient. The Yin overpowers the Yang, causing eye damage and declining vision."

"Yeah, I mean, even though every Uchiha has those big, glamorous eyes, how can normal human eyes withstand such massive amounts of chakra and mental strain?"

"This Gongde Droplet's integration was miraculous! It actually filled in the Yang Eye's cultivation method!"

Earlier, Aozora had worried the Gongde Droplet would be underutilized, but now he couldn't help but admit—it was totally worth it.

The Sharingan was purely innate talent—there was no formal training method for the eyes themselves. Without the Gongde Droplet's integration, the only ways to enhance his Sharingan were constant usage or awakening a higher level naturally.

And fortunately, the newly completed Yin Yang Eye cultivation technique gave Aozora a reliable and risk-free way to strengthen his eyesight.

Of course, it wasn't all good news either.

Aozora originally planned to focus on mastering the Shifting Body Technique after learning both the Great Fireball Jutsu and [Hokuto Fire Jutsu], hoping to improve his survival capabilities.

After all, as a long-range mage/archer (throwing kunai counted as archery), he believed maintaining distance from enemies was crucial.

Shifting Body Technique seemed like the perfect choice—not meant for rushing forward and competing in reaction speed, but for quickly creating space between himself and opponents.

In Aozora's envisioned combat strategy, this technique was vital.

However, his Sharingan was already extremely powerful, and Aozora firmly believed upgrading it would grant him further insights from the Heavenly Book. Therefore, he didn't want to abandon cultivating the Yang Eye either.

"Oh well, I'll begin with the Shifting Body Technique! Right now, my biggest weakness is speed."

After all, someone wise once said: When in doubt—turtling mode, activate!

His current weakness was mobility—enhancing escape and survival abilities remained top priority.

Thus, Aozora retrieved the scroll for the [Shifting Body Technique].

He'd already given it a quick read earlier that morning. After double-checking the details, Aozora stepped into the courtyard to begin training.

Despite its name suggesting instant movement, the Shifting Body Technique isn't actual teleportation or related to space manipulation at all.

Instead, it's a ninja art where practitioners rapidly channel chakra into their legs to achieve high-speed movement. Because this movement was so fast that the human eye couldn't track it, it earned the name "Shifting Body."

Because of its incredible speed after activation, this technique was extremely valuable both in combat and escaping. It was the most beloved ninjutsu among all high-ranking ninja.

Uchiha Aozora, as usual, slowly practiced the hand seals of the Shifting Body Technique, observing through these seals how chakra changed and flowed inside his body while executing it.

After practicing three to five times, Uchiha Aozora finally grew accustomed to it.

[Shifting Body Technique!]

Before the words even finished leaving his mouth, Uchiha Aozora had already begun channeling chakra using the Shifting Body Technique.

A portion of chakra instantly surged out from within his body, gathering at his feet. In the next instant, Aozora felt his body become light.

He instinctively took a step forward, suddenly realizing that the distant courtyard wall had become much closer.

[Boom!]

After colliding with the courtyard wall, Uchiha Aozora's entire body rebounded backward, falling onto the grass in the courtyard and rolling several times before stopping.

[Ahh—hiss—]

Uchiha Aozora sat up, first touching his forehead gently, then covering his nose.

After confirming that he hadn't been disfigured, Uchiha Aozora sighed in relief, saying, "Good thing, good thing!"

"This speed is too fast—I couldn't react at all!"

Thinking for a moment, Uchiha Aozora first closed his eyes tightly, then declared, "Activate!"

When he opened them again, two black tomoe spun into place within his crimson-red eyes.

With the Sharingan activated, Uchiha Aozora immediately felt the world before him had become much clearer.

[Shifting Body Technique!]

Uchiha Aozora continued using the Shifting Body Technique, but once again came the sound of [Bang!]

This time, he actually saw himself hurtling toward the wall. Even though he desperately tried to stop, his own momentum still sent him crashing into the courtyard wall.

"Seeing clearly doesn't mean I can react in time!"

"This time I put too much chakra into it!"

Realizing his mistake, Uchiha Aozora made adjustments and continued practicing.

And truth be told, having that strong foundation beforehand really paid off. After crashing into the courtyard wall twice in succession, leaving dents on it, Aozora only felt slightly dizzy. He shook off the dizziness and got straight back to practicing.
