Back on the bed, seeing her look a bit tired, I suggested, "It's late. Why don't you rest for a while?"
She had been by my side from afternoon until early morning, a wealthy girl who was surprisingly responsible.
"This is the last bottle. Once it's done dripping, I'll lie down over there," she said and pointed to the nearby recliner.
The room was a bit chilly, and the patient was without a blanket, risking a cold. "Go ask the nurse for a blanket," I instructed.
She nodded, "I'll do it later."
Twenty minutes later, as the IV drip finished, the night nurse came to remove the needle. I asked for a blanket, but the nurse apologized. "I'm sorry, the hygiene department has taken all the blankets for disinfection today, and they haven't been returned yet. So, there are no spare blankets in the storeroom."
Well, that was a bummer.
"It's okay. I'll manage for now. It's only a few hours until dawn," Lillian replied.
