The person digging under the large willow tree was none other than the fifth wife, Madam Hua.
When she saw Mu Dongni's curious expression, she quickly laughed to cover it up. "Oh, it's nothing, nothing. It's getting late, you should hurry back and rest."
Mu Dongni's suspicion flashed and then vanished, as she chuckled charmingly, "Oh, Sister-in-law, aren't you treating me like an outsider? I see you busy here, so you must be hiding something good from me."
"Sister-in-law, why don't you tell me? Could it be that there's money hidden underground?"
Madam Hua's expression stiffened, and she quickly shook her head, waving her hands. "Oh, little sister-in-law, don't talk nonsense. How could there be money underground! Oh! Let's just go back quickly, it's really getting late. Go, go, hurry back and rest."
Her anxious haste to send her away deepened Mu Dongni's suspicion. She circled her sister-in-law once, smiling mischievously, "Sister-in-law, could it be that you stole something from the family and buried it here?"
Madam Hua was startled and quickly exclaimed, "Don't falsely accuse me! How could I possibly steal anything from the family? I didn't steal anything, absolutely not."
"Sister-in-law, why are you panicking?" Mu Dongni rolled her eyes, took a few steps forward, and forcefully squeezed her sister-in-law aside. Then she squatted down and dug at the soil under the willow tree.
In no time, her fingers touched a cold stone box.
Joy flashed in Mu Dongni's eyes, and she quickly pulled the box out.
Madam Hua's eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
But Mu Dongni was quick. She opened it casually and saw a dazzling silver light inside, a whole box full of spirit coins, at least twenty to thirty thousand of them.
"Sister-in-law, you stole these, didn't you?" Mu Dongni shrieked.
Madam Hua, of course, refused to admit it. Her face pale, she quickly shook her head, "No, no, how could these be stolen? Don't talk nonsense if you don't know the whole story. If this gets out by accident, it could ruin my reputation."
Mu Dongni looked suspicious, "You didn't steal them? Could it be that you buried these here yourself?"
"Why would you bury this box of spirit coins here?"
Madam Hua hesitated, wanting to speak but holding back. After a long while, she finally lowered her voice, "Dongni, I'm telling you, you absolutely must not tell anyone about this."
Upon hearing this, Mu Dongni knew there was a story, and quickly nodded, "Alright, alright, Sister-in-law, tell me, tell me."
Madam Hua furtively glanced left and right, then pulled her to the side, away from the maid who was following Mu Dongni.
"Dongni, I'm telling you, I'm 'planting gold'."
"Planting gold??" Mu Dongni almost burst out laughing. "Sister-in-law, you're dreaming! This is the greatest absurdity under heaven! How could there be such a thing as planting gold? Do you really think if you bury ten thousand taels of gold underground, it'll grow into twenty thousand?"
Madam Hua quickly reached out to cover her mouth, pulling Mu Dongni forcefully with an annoyed look. "Keep your voice down, keep your voice down!"
"I'm telling you about this, aren't I? Believe it or not." Madam Hua withdrew her hand grumpily and snatched the stone box back from her.
Mu Dongni pouted, her eyes glinting, "Then tell me in detail, Sister-in-law!"
"Did you see this talisman?" Madam Hua took a talisman from the bottom of the box, let Mu Dongni glimpse it, and then immediately put it back as if it were a treasure.
