Chapter 4028: Discussion
Rong Li shook his head helplessly and sat at the table, pouring himself a cup of tea.
Actually, it was normal for the Emperor to be suspicious of him.
What normal person would undergo such a drastic change in temperament in such a short period?
He raised a hand to touch his face, smiling indifferently.
But even if they suspected him, what could they do? If the Emperor couldn't find anything, how could the Empress uncover the truth?
It probably wouldn't be long before the net closed in...
Fengyang City, Central Army Tent
Duan Yue rested his hand on his forehead, his gaze somewhat unfocused as it rested on his fingers.
There, a silver spatial ring faintly glimmered.
Ying, striding swiftly, pushed open the tent flap, bowed as he entered, and presented a communication talisman with both hands.
Duan Yue took it, read it for a moment, then tossed the talisman back to Ying, nodding slightly. "Wuyi and the others have handled everything."
It seemed that the proud and arrogant Empress had already tasted a bit of bitterness.
However, compared to the suffering he had endured...
It was far from enough!
"Your Highness, when are we returning?"
A dark line couldn't help but appear on Ying's forehead.
He'd been here for two or three days, and every day he saw General Xie, the deputy commander of the Divine Land Army, dropping by without reason, constantly inviting His Highness for tea and a chat. He had no idea what he was even here for!
Speak of the devil...
Xie Tianwei, who Ying had just been silently complaining about, performed an acrobatic flip and dropped in through a small window on the outside of the large tent. He brushed the dust off himself, complaining repeatedly, "I'm telling you, can you stop setting traps outside!"
"I've fallen into holes three times already! Can't you come up with something new?"
Duan Yue remained silent, looking up and sweeping a glance at the fellow.
Ying's lips twitched. He took the communication jade talisman and walked out.
He wasn't fooled; although his Highness's eyes showed utter disdain for Young Master Xie, there were two cups of tea on the table...
Xie Tianwei casually swooped over and sat in front of Duan Yue. He picked up a cup of tea, gulped it down like a thirsty ox!
"Another cup!" He put down the teacup and grinned at Duan Xiaosi. "Fourth Highness, when do you think we can go home?"
"In a couple of days," Duan Yue said unhurriedly, pouring him a cup of tea. "Is the army's grain supply insufficient?"
"There's a bandit stronghold nearby. We can go raid it together tomorrow."
"It would also be doing a good deed for the local people," Duan Yue said casually.
"Pfft..." Old Xie Er almost spat out his tea. He looked at the other's perfectly serious face, thinking to himself: No wonder this guy can be friends with our Highness; they're certainly equally black-hearted.
"We're not short on grain, though." It was true they weren't.
When they arrived, the Crown Prince had privately given him a storage talisman. The grain inside was enough not just for half a month, but probably half a year.
Duan Yue seemed to have thought of something, and his cold expression softened slightly. He nodded. "Qiaoqiao won't let you starve."
"Tomorrow, you'll retreat ten li."
"Understood." Xie Tianwei guzzled a cup of tea, his eyes shining. "Fourth Highness, the tea here is exceptionally good. How about giving me some tea leaves?"
"No," Duan Yue refused expressionlessly.
Xie Tianwei slyly reached out and tugged at Duan Yue's sleeve.
