Chapter 4224: The Dragon Clan
One of them politely cupped his fist at Mu Xingchen, saying, "Please wait a moment."
He then quickly went in to announce Mu Xingchen's arrival.
Mu Xingchen didn't mind, simply waiting outside the gate with a composed expression, showing no awkwardness about being kept waiting.
A moment later, he heard footsteps and looked up.
He saw a young woman, draped in a rainbow-colored scarf, with graceful and light movements, approaching, surrounded by several people.
The young woman reached the entrance of Cuihua Garden, sized up Mu Xingchen, and a hint of displeasure showed on her face. "Why are you the only one?"
Mu Xingchen raised an eyebrow, thinking to himself, Was he being disliked now?
Seeing that he didn't speak, the young woman clearly grew more displeased. "My aunt's daughter, why didn't she come to greet us?"
Mu Xingchen, finding her tone quite impolite, lost his interest in conversation. His handsome face darkened, and he said blandly, "The Crown Princess is not in the capital today."
The young woman frowned, seemingly trying hard to suppress a rising irritation. "Then what are you here for?"
Mu Xingchen bowed coldly, "This one was presumptuous. I was unaware that the Dragon clan's threshold was so unapproachable. I shall take my leave."
The young woman's eyes flashed with anger, and her left hand instinctively reached for a golden long whip hanging at her waist.
Suddenly, a deep, mellow voice came from behind her, "Xiangyun, don't be reckless."
Long Xiangyun sullenly curled her fingers and slowly lowered her hand, glaring fiercely at Mu Xingchen.
When she turned around, she suddenly shed her previous arrogant and overbearing expression, darting to the newcomer's side. She leaned against him like a small bird, sweetly calling out, "Brother."
Mu Xingchen felt a shiver run down his spine.
The newcomer was a tall, handsome young man, dressed in a golden, diagonally-fastened long robe, a style slightly different from the attire of the three continents' people.
His long hair was secured with a purple wooden hairpin, with a portion cascading down to his waist.
His expression seemed gentle and easygoing, but the aura of a high-ranking individual emanated from him, impossible to conceal.
"I am Long Hui," the man before him greeted Mu Xingchen with a cupped-fist salute, following the customs of the three continents, and smiled, "My sister was impolite earlier."
Mu Xingchen nodded indifferently, stating his name again, "Mu Xingchen."
Because Long Xiangyun had left him with a very poor impression, Mu Xingchen couldn't be bothered to be overly friendly. He simply stated flatly, "The Crown Princess and His Royal Highness are out of the city today and will only return tomorrow."
"Please wait at the guesthouse."
Long Hui was momentarily stunned, then smiled and nodded. "Alright."
"Brother!" Long Xiangyun stamped her foot in dissatisfaction, a hint of annoyance flashing in her eyes.
"We don't have much time. Sister Xueyuan, she..."
Long Hui glanced at her indifferently, and Long Xiangyun pouted, grudgingly closing her mouth.
Mu Xingchen lightly cupped his hands, "The message has been delivered. I shall take my leave."
"Cousin, please wait!" Long Hui was startled and hurriedly called out to Mu Xingchen.
Mu Xingchen turned his head slightly, looking at Long Hui with an uncommitted gaze. "Is there anything else, Young Master Long?"
Long Hui, seeing his cold expression, knew that Mu Xingchen must have developed ill feelings towards Long Xiangyun. He quickly tried to smooth things over, "Cousin is two years older than I. There's no need to be so distant and call me Young Master; 'A-Hui' will suffice."
"I wouldn't dare," Mu Xingchen coldly refused. "The Dragon clan's threshold is too high; Xingchen cannot aspire to it."
A hint of embarrassment appeared on Long Hui's face.
