Chapter 4231: Strangers
Qiao Mu gazed at him with cold eyes, clearly not taking a single word he said to heart.
"See them out. There's no need for us to meet again in the future," Qiao Mu turned to Mo Lian.
The latter nodded, taking her small hand.
"Cousin."
Qiao Mu coldly glanced at Long Hui. "We're not close."
Long Hui's heart sank by half. He knew he had thoroughly offended this temperamental cousin this time.
"Grandmother's end is near. She hopes to see you and your brother one last time."
Mu Xingchen, who had stood silently behind Qiao Mu the entire time, subtly shifted his gaze.
"Then why didn't you mention it before?"
Long Hui took a deep breath. "I intended to speak with Cousin and Cousin—"
Seeing the little Crown Princess's cold gaze, Long Hui awkwardly corrected himself, "—and the Crown Princess, after our family had settled down. I didn't expect things to escalate like this."
"Crown Princess, please forgive us," Long Hui bowed. "It was my sister who was thoughtless and disrespectful earlier. The Crown Princess has already taught her a lesson. Could you please remove the effects of the medicine on her first?"
Long Xiangyun still couldn't move, her body completely unable to stand. If Long Hui still didn't understand that the little Crown Princess had secretly played a trick, then he truly was a fool.
Qiao Mu looked at him expressionlessly, and after a moment, said, "Do you think that everyone in the world, except yourselves, are fools?"
Long Hui's heart tightened. "Why do you say that, Crown Princess?"
"People who haven't seen me for over a decade, yet can threaten me with my mother's life lamp projection. Are they worthy of my trust?"
"My brother and I have existed for so many years, and you never once remembered us."
"I truly find it hilarious. With your intelligence, could you only come up with such a low-level excuse?"
"Is it truly so important for my brother and me to meet an old lady on her deathbed for a final time?"
Qiao Mu suddenly laughed heartily, her laughter imbued with an endless, chilling coldness. "Long Chuyun, can you even remember what she looks like?"
"You don't even remember Long Chuyun. Why bother pretending with me, looking at me with deep affection and saying you miss me?"
"Qiaoqiao..." Mu Xingchen looked at his sister with a pang of sadness.
Mo Lian, suppressing his anger, held Qiao Mu's small hand as if to comfort her.
"You are truly nauseating," Qiao Mu said coldly.
Her eyes, like bright, sparkling diamonds, seemed to illuminate the darkest and ugliest aspects of a person's heart.
Long Hui was somewhat speechless.
Thinking of the true purpose of his visit, he could only remain silent.
"Crown Princess, I know you hold considerable resentment towards the Dragon clan."
"Don't flatter yourself," Qiao Mu interrupted him faintly. "To me, the Dragon clan is merely a stranger. I hold no resentment or anger towards you."
Long Hui was stunned.
Then he heard Qiao Mu say coldly, "When you walk on the street, do you suddenly get angry at strangers?"
Strangers? Strangers!
A hint of anger subtly surfaced in Long Hui's heart.
From beginning to end, the girl was desperately trying to disassociate herself from the Dragon clan.
He felt helpless, yet also somewhat annoyed.
He had already pleaded so humbly, yet the other party's unyielding attitude truly left him feeling helpless.
"You are too wary of us," Long Hui could only utter that one dry sentence.
Qiao Mu returned a cold glance, then pulled Mo Lian and turned to leave.
