Chapter 4768: A Swirl of Emotions
She had changed too much. Could twenty years truly alter a person so profoundly?
Long Chuyu's heart swelled with emotion. He sat blankly on the ground, looking up at the woman.
He remembered that she had once been a blooming, beautiful young girl.
How could she have... changed so much?
"Yun'er," Ding Ziyan looked at Ding Yun, saying calmly, "Are you still doubting that the first person your mother made you kill, when you were ten, was your twin brother?"
Ding Yun looked at his birth mother with a complex gaze, unable to speak for a long moment.
Ding Ziyan continued, "I was indeed pregnant with twins at the time. Your brother, however, died prematurely at birth."
"The one you killed when you were ten was merely a dark guard."
Ding Yun paused, his gaze still disbelieving as he looked at Ding Ziyan.
Ding Ziyan added, "Do you still remember that child's appearance? He didn't resemble you at all, did he? No matter how ruthless your mother might be, she would never make you kill your own brother."
"Then what about my foster father?"
"Why do you choose to believe those specious rumors from outside?" Ding Ziyan said coldly. "Your foster father was indeed killed by me, but he was secretly plotting to seize our Beijing Mountain Villa. How could I let him succeed?"
"The marriage alliance between Mochou Valley and Beijing Mountain Villa was solely for your foster father to gain control of Beijing Mountain Villa's sphere of influence."
"Do you think he genuinely cared for you?"
"He merely offered you small favors from time to time," Ding Ziyan glanced indifferently at her son. "Don't be deceived by a little bit of so-called warmth. Yes, he accompanied you in martial arts training, and you were very close to him."
"But what does that even count for?" Ding Ziyan's voice was very cold. "He only valued your identity."
"Mother, is what you're saying today true?"
"When have I ever lied to you?" Ding Ziyan looked at Ding Yun, shook her head, and then turned to Long Chuyu.
She finally looked at him directly.
Their gazes met, and a swirl of emotions filled the moment.
Long Chuyu took a breath and called out in a low voice, "Ziyan."
Ding Ziyan looked at him, feeling very strange. Years of affection seemed to dissipate like leaves blown by the wind, rustling and disappearing the moment they met.
"Long Chuyu, actually, I really regret it," Ding Ziyan said. "I regret not listening to my father back then."
"Although I was just a young girl from the Lower Star Domain back then, and you were a cultivator from the Upper Realm, our statuses seemed worlds apart."
"But honestly, my father, the old master of Beijing Mountain Villa, always looked down on you. He even flatly told me that if I truly ended up with you, I would surely regret it immensely for the rest of my life."
"It truly turned out that way," Ding Ziyan gave a self-deprecating smile and shook her head. "You kept wavering between your fiancée and me, indecisive until the very end."
"You truly harmed me."
Ding Ziyan suddenly turned to Madam Long. "Your fiancée, who is now Madam Long, Long Chuyu, do you know what she did to me back then?"
"She viciously administered a Heartbreaking Poison to me."
"Once this poison enters the body, one must absolutely not fall in love. To fall in love is to suffer the agony of a thousand cuts, like ten thousand ants gnawing at the heart."
"And the most despairing part is: this toxin, as I became pregnant, was also passed on to my Yun'er."
Long Chuyu's eyes narrowed. He quickly looked up at Madam Long. "This is impossible."
