Chapter 5040: 5.0792 Who Are You Provoking?
The town head's wife hurriedly covered the children's mouths, shrinking back in terror.
"Please, Town Head, you can now have everyone come out and go to the meeting grounds."
The old town head trembled as he stood up, taking out the amplified mystic device he usually used to summon people, and took a deep breath.
The entire Royal Estate Town, numbering about four to five hundred people, were all gathered at the meeting grounds. Everyone was bewildered, looking at each other.
Seeing this, Qiao Mu quietly distributed transformation talismans to Zuo Lanshan, Shen Wu, and the others. The group then openly revealed themselves, secretly blending into the crowd of ordinary people, and gathered at the meeting grounds with the rest of Royal Estate Town.
Around the meeting grounds, over a thousand Duo Luo Kingdom soldiers were deployed, each wearing short armor and red-plumed helmets.
The townspeople of Royal Estate Town huddled together, somewhat shrinking back. In the chilling wind, even with a faint sliver of sunlight in the sky, everyone felt a cold dread in their hearts.
Qiao Mu stood in the crowd, looking around at the cowering masses, and suddenly felt... as if she had returned to Qiao Tou Village years ago.
Back then, they were just as weak. When facing the oppression of the Heavenly Dao Sect, all the villagers dared not speak out, only silently watching, like walking corpses hiding to the side, angry but daring not to speak.
Now, it was still the same!
A different place, a different group of people, yet nothing had changed. They were still a flock of lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
Weakness was indeed the original sin. Qiao Mu frowned, looking forward.
That Duo Luo Kingdom General Hado stood on a half-human-height stone block, his gaze piercing as he stared at the gathered townspeople of Royal Estate Town below.
He turned and gave his deputy, Gu'er, a look.
The young officer immediately walked to the front of the crowd with half a whip in hand, asking with a grin, "Town Head, is everyone here?"
The old town head and his family stood at the very front of the crowd. Hearing Gu'er's question, he trembled slightly and silently nodded.
Gu'er smiled. "Since everyone is here, then bring them over."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was the clanking sound of iron chains nearby.
Everyone felt their hearts suddenly tighten, instinctively huddling closer towards the center.
"Clang, clang." Arm-thick chains were dragged by people, pulled all the way from a distance.
Standing beside Qiao Mu was a girl about her age, sixteen or seventeen. Her round face was covered in fine beads of sweat due to nervousness.
Qiao Mu could clearly hear her rapid breathing, and it seemed her heart was pounding faster.
"Ah!" A series of exclamations suddenly erupted from the crowd.
Everyone looked towards the long iron chains and saw two large iron cages, over a meter high, being dragged over by four or five strong men, making grating, harsh scraping sounds against the ground.
Inside the iron cages were two creatures whose original forms were unclear. Their hair hung messily over their foreheads, and a pair of blood-red small eyes stared fixedly at them through the bars.
Qiao Mu looked at the iron cages thoughtfully for a few more moments, examining the two corpse puppets, one large and one small, confined within. She felt a sense of déjà vu.
Looking at their figures, one of them seemed to be a boy.
Wait...
Qiao Mu's eyes flashed, her sharp gaze sweeping over the two monsters in the cage again. A sudden realization flashed through her mind: They resemble the brother and sister from the Fang family, whom she encountered on Lotus Pond Island.
Today I worked overtime until 10 PM, got back too late. Sleeping now, I'll make up for it with two more updates tomorrow.
Happy New Year!
I still have to work overtime tomorrow, so I don't know when I'll be back. Updates will probably be late...
