Chapter 5320: Caught in the Crossfire
"Big Brother, aren't you Prince Zheng, personally enfeoffed by the Great Emperor himself? Why do we always get stifled in front of them?"
Madam Lin, the little white flower (a derogatory term for a seemingly innocent but manipulative woman), quickly smiled and linked arms with the displeased Mo Xikang, then turned to Su Xitao. "Tao'er, your big brother is merely showing courtesy to his kin."
Su Xitao rolled her eyes, her face full of indignation. "One absolutely cannot show courtesy to people like that. Not even a single step back. If you take one step back, they'll take an inch and advance further. Big Brother, you keep retreating, and soon there'll be nowhere left to go. Then, where will our family retreat to?"
Madam Lin quickly tried to soothe her, "Little sister, didn't you say this new pastry shop has good things? How about I go with you to pick some out for home?"
Su Xitao, however, gave her no face, directly swatting away the hand Madam Lin offered. She muttered, "Can't I pick them myself? No need for your extra words."
Madam Lin's eyes reddened with grievance.
Mo Xikang was a little angry. Considering they were in public, scolding his sister on the street wasn't ideal. So, he impatiently glared at Su Xitao, then pulled Madam Lin's hand and turned to leave. What pastries? He was in no mood for any pastries now.
Qiao Mu sat in the gently swaying carriage, unwrapping a package of pastries and popping one into her mouth. "Qiao Qiao's Lian, tell me, why would that Mo Xikang invite us for tea for no reason? What's his motive?"
Mo Lian's lips twitched slightly. He unwrapped a few more packages of pastries and fed them to his wife. "He probably just genuinely wanted to show us goodwill." Who knew his wife would dislike this person so much?
Qiao Mu snorted. "When I see that delicate little white flower (Madam Lin) beside him, I just feel uncomfortable."
"As the legitimate Crown Princess of the main palace, am I supposed to go and have tea with a concubine? What kind of image would that project?"
"Yes, yes, the Crown Princess is mighty," Crown Prince Mo nodded in agreement repeatedly, smoothly handing her a cup of brewed tea. "We won't bother with people who have a screw loose."
What his Qiao Qiao said was also correct. Their statuses were different; forcing themselves to have tea together would surely be awkward.
"He's like your old Prince Jianping uncle!"
Mo Lian: "Eh?" Strange, Prince Jianping is sitting at home, how did disaster fall from the sky? My wife is just dissing people, why drag old Prince Jianping into it?
"Flirtatious, lecherous!" the little stoic said with a dead serious expression. "And particularly unreliable."
Mo Lian secretly chuckled, but on the surface, he looked as if he completely agreed with his wife's opinion. He fully embraced the idea that whatever his wife said was correct.
Crown Prince Mo nodded. "You're right, wifey. That guy Prince Jianping is just... incredible. He completely avoids the good qualities of his elder brothers and instead picks up all the spoiled, lecherous habits."
"Next time we see him, we'll fleece him for some money."
At the same time, far away in Prince Jianping's manor, old Prince Jianping suddenly sneezed repeatedly, exchanging bewildered glances with his son, Mo Kun.
Mo Kun suddenly jumped up from his seat with a "bang." "Close the gates, close the gates immediately!"
Old Prince Jianping asked, utterly perplexed, "What are you doing? Why are you going crazy for no reason?"
"Close the gates!" Mo Kun ignored his father's question, frantically urging the manor servants to shut Prince Jianping's main gates.
Old Prince Jianping looked utterly confused. "What's all this for?"
Mo Kun shivered several times.
