Chapter 5400: Warmth
"Qiao Qiao." He lowered his head to tighten her cloak, then hugged her tightly. "It won't happen again."
Qiao Mu pursed her lips, then thumped him on the back with her free hand. "These past two days, Mother kept nagging me, saying I don't know how to raise a baby, and that I'm unreliable."
"She just hasn't seen you, ah! You're even more unreliable."
Mo Lian quickly promised, "Next time, I'll definitely be reliable, incredibly reliable."
Qiao Mu hummed, nodding with a haughty look. "Alright then, I'll forgive you once on behalf of our son."
"When did you realize he was gone?" Mo Lian asked curiously.
"A minute before you woke up."
Mo Lian: ...
He looked at her with a mix of laughter and tears. "Then, aren't you the same as me?"
"What do you mean 'the same'!"
"Alright, alright, not the same, not the same." What an arrogant little darling, she bristles at every word. Mo Lian laughed helplessly, quickly reaching out to soothe her. "You're reliable. You're the best mother in the world."
The little stoic felt a bit more comfortable. She hummed and nodded. "That's natural."
In the darkness, a figure flashed before them. From a charcoal-black face, a pair of bright eyes curved into a smile at them.
"Masters, this way."
The two walked hand-in-hand under the moonlight for about fifteen minutes, then couldn't help but exchange glances. What was going on? They truly wanted to ask, how did their son manage to travel all the way from the main hall of the East Palace to this secluded little courtyard? Both of them held back from speaking.
Hui Feng, however, was very understanding. "Masters, the little master is incredibly amazing. When I was squatting in the tree, I saw him float out of the sleeping chamber's window, drifting and drifting, all the way here."
"He didn't stop even once along the way. He never came down to rest..."
"Midway, he encountered a wild cat. Your subordinate was worried it might bite the little master, but before I could even make a move, I saw that cat suddenly fly out, legs flailing backwards." Hui Feng pointed to the roof opposite. "It's right there."
The two parents felt a bit complicated. They looked up at the roof Hui Feng pointed to. Indeed, they saw a mottled little cat, trembling and curled up on the roof, wailing pitifully.
The little stoic twitched her lips and said expressionlessly, "Get it down."
"Alright!" Hui Feng suddenly leaped up onto the roof and, in a few swift movements, brought the little cat down.
Lady Qiao Qiao and Crown Prince Mo exchanged glances, their expressions somewhat complex. Their own son secretly floated out of the main hall, and they, as parents, knew nothing at all—this was truly... utterly ridiculous!
The two arrived at the entrance of the small Buddhist hall. Two hidden guards, already lurking in the shadows, stepped forward, pushed open the door of the small Buddhist hall, and bowed, inviting the couple inside.
As they stepped through the door, they saw that under the faint glow of two rows of candles, silver charcoal burned inside, so it wasn't cold. A large communal bed was laid out next to the prayer mats in front of the Buddhist shrine, with two quilts and one mattress, looking quite thick and warm.
Their son was lying on Kong Kong's belly. The three little devils were sprawled out, fast asleep. Kong Kong's fist rested across Little Monkey's face, Little Monkey's foot was on Guang Guang, and Guang Guang was curled up in the bedding next to the two, covering his head but exposing a small part of his backside.
This row of sleeping postures was truly captivating. Qiao Mu couldn't help but let out a chuckle. Looking at these comical little fellows, all her anger vanished.
Mo Lian looked on, his phoenix eyes filled with a smile.
