Chapter 14

The five of us explored the secret area. It started with a long hallway that we had to march down single file to reach the door at the end. Mark opened it and we all entered behind him.

"No freaking way!"

There was a vending machine down here!

We ran to it, shoving each other out of the way to see what the machine had in stock. "Its all full art singles!" Kit noted. "Some of these are worth hundreds. That one there was worth a thousand last time I checked." he pointed to a summon card depicting a centaur. The art was purposely designed so the centaur was too tall to have his head in the frame.

Mark went first. "Since all of you cowered behind me, I feel like I should have first dibs."

I shrugged. Quake was quiet for once. Alia kissed her teeth, but didn't protest.

"Fine." Kit said. "But don't take that Exorcist card. I've been dying to build a deck around it for a long time."

"And save that item for me." Quake pointed to a card depicting the shadow of a demon being cast over a book.

"Well, if we're calling dibs, save the other tome for me." Alia snapped.

I was starting to notice a trend. "Are we just gonna pick cards that go well with our playstyle?"

We all looked at each other. "I guess so." Mark said. "If I'm going for an Elementalist card, and Quake, you're going for a tome that only works in Wizard class. And I'm assuming that tome focuses on removal, right Kit? THen we don't need to call dibs."

"Except for us." Alia said about the three Wizard dorm members.

"Not really. I play a discard deck, so save me that one there. The one with the hands on it."

Alia nodded. "Damn. I guess it does work out because I want the other tome." The only unclaimed card was an item with a book for its card art. An indigo eye was drawn on its cover.

Quake clapped his hands. "That's that. Now no one can get mad at anyone from taking their card."

Mark claimed his card. Then Quake. Then Alia. Then me and then Kit.

"Let's get out of here. This place gives me the creeps." Alia shivered.

We marched back outside in the same order with grins on our face and new cards in our hand.
