Chapter 9 - Repayment

Today Kenji wasn't planning on going on a quest, but he wanted to repay Akarui as soon as possible for his help yesterday.

Kenji went to the guild. There, he saw more people than usual at the wooden tables. He looked at the board full of different quests.

He wanted to pick an easier quest so he would finish it faster, but still, he wanted it to pay well enough so he would be able to repay Akarui the money.

He looked there for a while and finally found something he liked. It was a quest to hunt 5 monsters called Kisons that were level 10, and the price he would get for hunting them was good too. It was 200 dollars—enough to pay Akarui.

Kenji planned to go alone on this quest. Of course, he didn't want Akarui to go with him because that way he wouldn't be able to repay him fairly.

I should tell Akarui that I will be going on a quest, so he wouldn't search for me, Kenji thought as he went looking for Akarui to tell him that he would go on a quest.

Just when he wanted to go looking for him, Akarui appeared in front of Kenji.

"Kenji, what's up?" Akarui said after seeing him.

"Oh, didn't see you there. I wanted to tell you that I will be going on a quest."

"This soon? I thought you said you would go later? Do you want me to come with you?" Akarui asked.

"Yeah, I was going to go late, but I decided now, and I want to go alone on this one. So, see you later!" Kenji said, leaving through the main door.

Kenji went to the dark forest for the quest as usual. He knew how to kill the monsters easily.

"I should try my new spell on the monsters and expect a new spell, a higher level one too, of course," Kenji murmured.

This kind of monster had three legs, three arms, and a big head. For Kenji, the monsters that are a higher level than him are still not very strong.

For some reason, they are so easy to kill even though they are much higher level than him, but Kenji knows this is because he trains a lot.

After walking for a while in the dark forest full of trees around, there was once again nothing—no animals, no sounds. It was silent because everyone is scared to go in this forest unless they are a hunter in a guild.

Kenji was used to that since he had been coming to this place for his quests from the guild.

Kenji walked a bit more than usual because, as the darker you go, the stronger the monsters become, and now he needed to go further than usual.

As he was walking, he saw a small group of Gomons surrounding him. They looked very hungry and were different than usual.

"Strange, I usually get a way to go to the monsters I need to hunt from the quest, and I don't need to fight other monsters on my way. Did I go the wrong way or something?" He was very confused.

In the quest, there is a way to go only to the monsters you need to hunt and not to run into other monsters, but this time Gimons appeared.

Kenji thought this was strange but still thought he took a wrong turn or something, so he started fighting the monsters.

Kenji didn't use any spells on the monsters; he wanted to fight them with his sword so he could see how good he is with it and how much more he needs to train.

The group had 10 Gimons, and he slashed 3 of them by moving his sword only once. He moved left and right so the monsters would be confused, and after that, he killed them by cutting them in half. For the last 4, he cut their arms first, then legs, and finally their heads.

After killing all of them, he headed deeper into the forest to find the monsters he was looking for and was hoping not to see another type of monsters in the way just like before.

After he saw the monsters he was looking for—the Kisons—he was ready to kill them all with spells.

"Finally I found you guys."

Seven Kisons appeared in front of him, and he was planning on taking down all seven of them.

"Water Cannon."

A ball made of water was shot at one of the Kisons. He shot it at its head, and the monster's head blew up as it fell down.

"Not bad," Kenji said smiling.

He wanted to use his Water Wave spell, but one of the Kisons hurt him on his arm while he wasn't looking.

"Huh? Is that all you can do, really?"

Kenji hardly felt it after he used another spell on the other monsters that were still standing in front of him.

"Water Wave."

Three of the monsters were thrown, but they still stood up again, so Kenji used the Water Wave spell once again on them to finish them off.

"Water Wave."

For the last three that were there, he used his sword and cut them down—all three of them that were still standing.

[Level 6 unlocked]

[Level 7 unlocked]

[New spell acquired: Water Wall]

Kenji was so surprised that he got two levels more this time. It was very surprising for him after he saw this.

"What? How did this happen?"

Kenji was so happy to see that he got two more levels and now that he was level 7 and not level 6, as he thought he would be.

"Look at this spell. This spell must be a protection spell, a wall made of water to protect me, I guess. I mean, how can I fight with a wall otherwise?"

Kenji was so happy and then he decided to go back to the guild and get his money so he could finally repay Akarui.

Just when he was ready to go to the guild, he sensed something strange, something he had never felt before.

And then, Kenji turned around to see what that thing was that he sensed, that strange thing. What could it be?

It was dark, with red eyes, something big, three eyes—it was a monster that appeared there.

Monster level 30, Kenji saw when he looked up after seeing how big and scary this monster was.

"What!? No way! Impossible!"

"How can a level 30 monster appear in this place? Why would it appear right now? Why?" he screamed.

Kenji was all in fear. His legs were trembling, and he couldn't stand up. It felt like he was going to fall any moment now... He knew he couldn't defeat this monster.

Kenji fell down; he was so scared that he wasn't able to move or think about running away.

The monster was ready to attack him with the big sword that it had in its left hand, and it wasn't looking friendly.

And then...
