Today, Kenji went on a small quest in the morning alone, just to do something during the day. He had started feeling restless—like something was missing.
It was a quest to hunt 15 monsters that were level 3 and earn 50 dollars. Not a lot, especially since he already had more than enough money, but at least it would keep his mind busy.
He headed to the dark forest quickly, hoping for at least a bit of action. The moment he spotted the monsters, he sighed.
"This is easy" he thought, almost disappointed.
Still, he did the job. After a short while, he defeated all 15 monsters and returned to the guild to get his reward.
Back in his room, he sat on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
I'm still so bored... He didn't feel satisfied.
I can go to the guild hall and look around maybe I will find something more interesting than staying here and doing nothing.
So, with nothing better to do, he left his room and went to the guild hall, just to walk around.
As he stepped into the hall, going down the stairs lazily, he spotted someone heading his way. Elize. She looked a little nervous.
"Um, hi Kenji... I was wondering if you could come with me on a quest. I don't have anyone else to ask, and the quest is kind of more than I can handle—but I really need the money," she said, stopping in front of him, fidgeting slightly.
Kenji blinked, surprised by the sudden request. He hadn't expected to be needed.
That's a good idea since I am bored at the moment. he thought.
"Sure, I can come with you on your quest. I don't have anything better to do, so it's a great idea for me," he replied with a small smile.
She visibly relaxed when she heard that he decided to go with her on the quest.
"Thanks," she said, looking genuinely relieved
Elize was level 21, and the monster she was going to face was level 25. She wasn't weak, but the gap was enough to make her nervous.
"Okay, great then! I want to do most of the work—just need a bit of help killing the monster," she said, trying to sound confident.
So she wanted to do most of the work herself, that's fair enough. He nodded
The two of them headed into the Dark Forest. It was quiet, the air thick and a little cold. As they walked deeper in, Elize grew more focused.
After a while, they found the monster they were looking for to defeat.
"Okay, this is the one I wanted to fight," she said, her tone serious now.
Without wasting time, she pulled out her sword and charged in. Her blade slashed across the monster's side, fast and clean. She didn't stop. She fought with everything she had.
Kenji stood back, watching her carefully.
"She's good... really good. But that thing's strong too."
Elize suddenly opened her inventory and cast Wind Blast. A swirl of energy shot toward the monster, hitting it hard—but not hard enough. It roared and kept coming.
Kenji saw her slowing down. Her breathing was getting heavy so he decided to help her a little.
She's pushing herself too hard He thought
"Water Wave!"
Kenji stepped in and cast his spell. The wave crashed into the monster's side, giving Elize a moment to catch her breath.
Still, he held back. He knew she wanted to finish this mostly on her own without much of his help.
She kept fighting, even while exhausted. Kenji moved in again, slashing with his sword and casting Water Ball to support her.
Then, with one final blow, Elize swung her blade and slashed the monster's head clean off. It fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Breathing hard, she stumbled back and leaned against a tree, sliding down to sit.
"Thanks, Kenji... for your help. I couldn't have done it without you," she said, looking up at him with a tired smile.
Kenji gave a small smile back. "It was nothing, really," he said. But inside, he felt a little proud.
She is so strong, and I'm glad to help her, I hope she will improve even better soon.
After she rested and caught her breath, the two of them returned to the guild hall. Elize turned in the quest and received her reward.
She got 1,150 dollars for killing the monster, and she was overjoyed. "This is enough... I won't need to take on another quest for a while," she said, her eyes shining.
Kenji just watched her quietly, a faint smile still on his face, it was getting late and headed to his room.
He leaned to the bed and watched the ceiling for a while, the sun started to disappear and the moon came.
Maybe today wasn't so boring after all.
