Chapter 54: the Late Letter

Outside the grand chamber, Aurora lingered.

She had heard everything.

The prophecies. The child. The fire. The bloodline.

She turned to leave. Her eyes glassy, her expression unreadable.

Then, Cheri appeared.

Wordless, smiling, she handed her a folded letter.

Aurora didn't need to open it to recognize the writing.

Her voice cracked, "Niegal…"

Cheri's smile softened. "My lady meant to give it to you the morning after she met with him. Be well."

Aurora clutched it to her chest. Her hands trembled.

She could feel the words inside her already:

I love you. I'm sorry I hurt you. I'll see you soon.

Tears welled in her eyes; happy, warm, overwhelmed.

Before anyone could see, before Seamus could glimpse the softness in her, Aurora turned and walked away.

Faster.

Smiling.

Letter pressed to her heart.
