What is all this stuff? Kaito pondered. I'll have to ask Dad when he gets home.
He wanted to wait for his father to get home, but he couldn't hold his curiosity anymore.
He picked up the telephone and called his father.
"Hello! Lucas speaking. Who's this?" said his father on the phone.
"Hey Dad, it's me Kaito," he answered.
"Kaito? Why are you calling me? You know I'm in the middle of class right now. This better be important," replied his father.
"I found your folder Dad. Is all that stuff about demons true? Why were you studying them? And what about all that stuff about the Ember–" continued Kaito before he was cut off by his father.
"Kaito. Listen to me. L-Lock the doors and shut the windows. I'm coming home right now," his father ordered Kaito and cut the call.
Kaito waited for his father to come back.
It had been hours and yet he still wasn't home.
I'm worried about Dad, sighed Kaito. I hope he's okay.
Kaito heard a sudden knock on the front door, but before he could react, the door burst open.
Six armed men entered the house.
One of them pointed a rifle at his head.
Kaito froze.
Another went and handcuffed him.
The two of them took Kaito and put him in their black van.
Then, the rest of them started searching through the house.
They confiscated everything that seemed important, including his father's folder.
They all were wearing black uniforms.
And on there backs was a red DNA strand and the name "Helix Foundation" was written under it in red.
The same logo and name was also on the back of the van.
One of the men, who was inside the van, sedated Kaito.
After they confiscated everything, the men sat in the van and drove off.
After some time, Kaito woke up.
He looked around and saw that he was in some type of containment cell.
Where... Am I? Thought Kaito.
Infront of him was a red tinted glass, sealing him.
He could see out through it and saw a long corridor outside with containment cells like his on both sides of the wall.
He noticed that he wasn't tied up or restrained either.
But something was off.
His forehead felt heavier.
He looked at his reflection in the mirror.
Not only was his old headband gone, but it had been replaced with a new one.
A thick, huge and heavy metal band was wrapped around his forehead.
It also had three small, green LED lights on it.
Two were stable while one was blinking and beeping.
Why would they replace my headband? And with this... He thought.
He saw that some men in suits opened the cell in front of him and placed, what looked like a vacuum cleaner, in there.
At the mouth of the vacuum cleaner was a large purple bag made of rubber which looked like an uninflated balloon.
They stepped out and closed the cell.
One of the men took out a remote from his pocket and pressed a button on it.
The vacuum cleaner started whirring.
What in the world is that? Though Kaito as he started to panic after what he saw. I need to get out of this place.
He saw the bag inflate.
It was inflating abnormally.
As it grew in size and got tighter, it looked more and more like a man.
The vacuum cleaner had pushed out a man.
A living man.
The man was fully trapped inside the rubber bag.
He stood up and ripped the rubber off his face.
"Aw man... You guys got me again, dammit. I gonna kill every single one of you once I get out of here," said the man who looked about 21 years old.
He had a rough voice and a wheatish complexion.
The label outside his cell read, "Specimen #12 (Non Human)".
Kaito banged loudly on the glass.
"Let me out!" he screamed.
"Hey, kid! You new here? What's your name?" asked the man who was pushed out of the vacuum cleaner.
"Kaito. That's my name. Kaito Kazanari," he replied.
"Well Kaito, that's a crappy name. My name's Ricky Randall. And all that banging won't do any good. You're as good as dead in here," said Ricky. "And why does it say half human outside your cell?"
"How am I supposed to know why? I don't even know what's going on here. And yours says non-human. What about that?" answered Kaito.
"You wanna know what's going on here? Well let me tell ya! The people here at Helix Foundation kidnap a bunch of people. The ones they deem special of course. Then they experiment a bunch on them to turn them into something non human. After the experiment is successful, they change the kid's status from human to non human.
I've been here ever since I was 5, and I never saw a half human. And since you're new, it means they haven't done anything to you yet. So why does your cell say half human?! Tell me why?!" Ricky answered.
"Like I said, I don't know why. Tell me something, is there a way to escape from here? You've done it before right? And do you have any idea about why they're doing this?" asked Kaito.
"Hell yeah I've done it before! Two times I've escaped from here. Two times. Wanna know how?
The first time was when I was around 9. I broke through the glass and fled. I left the lab. I ran and I ran without looking back. But alas, they caught me and brought me back. This time they learned from their mistake and replaced all the glass with reflexium. I've heard that it's a material that looks like red tinted glass and hits you back with 98% of the damage you inflicted on it.
The second time I escaped was when I was 13. Some people had raided the lab and freed all the specimens from their cells. This time I had successfully escaped.
After that, I lived in an orphanage for seven years before they brought me back.
Now I'm almost 21 years old. And when I escape this time, I'll make sure to kill them all before leaving.
I don't know why they do this but I've heard that they work with the government to turn people into living weapons.
And hey, I'll bring you out with me. Afterall, you're the first friend I've had in a long time," said Ricky with a big smile on his face.
Kaito didn't reply.
Suddenly, chaos erupted.
A loud siren began to ring and a voice on the speakers kept saying, "Code Yellow. I repeat, Code Yellow."
The workers at Helix Foundation ran around in a panic.
"Hey Kaido, can you guess what a code yellow is?" said Ricky.
"I don't know, what? And my name isn't Kaido," answered Kaito.
"It means someone broke into the building, Kaido," smirked Ricky. "This'll give us a chance to escape," his smile widened.
