On the day of Wanwan's seventh birthday, I took her to buy groceries, planning to make a delicious meal that evening.
Suddenly, a beggar on the side of the road grabbed my foot, and I frowned and looked down,
it was my parents-in-law.
The two of them were shabbily dressed, filthy, and exuded an indescribable stench.
"Zhixia, it's us, we were foolish before, you're generous, can you forgive us?"
My father-in-law's voice trembled, his eyes filled with pleading.
I didn't want to pay them any attention, and pulled my foot out of his grasp with disdain.
Seeing that I ignored him, he then turned to Wanwan.
"Wanwan, it's Grandpa and Grandma, didn't you always want Grandpa and Grandma to play with you? Come, let Grandpa give you a hug."
He reached out, trying to pull Wanwan into his arms.
I watched Wanwan with some concern, worried that she might soften.
