The wedding venue for Wang Haoxuan and Tang Feifei was extravagantly set up, and for people to get a close feel of the joyous atmosphere, the location was chosen in a large courtyard not far from the Fire God Altar.
Tang Feifei, to continue to humiliate me, had her attendant drag me to the scene before she got into the sedan chair. She wanted me to see with my own eyes her wedding with Wang Haoxuan, to let me understand how vast the gap between us was.
Yet, she didn't know that at this moment, the scene at the Fire God Altar was already in chaos.
Hundreds of villagers surrounded a three-meter-tall wooden scaffold, which was covered with firewood wrapped in red silk.
This is the altar where the Fire God is to wed today.
In ten minutes, the ceremony would start, and I, the chosen Fire God Bride, was supposed to be dressed in a wedding gown, pushed onto the scaffold, and then the High Priest would personally light the fire, for the ten-second cleansing by fierce flames.
But the ceremony was about to begin, and yet this bride, I, was nowhere to be seen.
This had everyone worried sick.
Especially Wang Haoxuan's father, the High Priest. His face was solemn as he kept gazing into the distance.
If they missed the auspicious time, the Fire God would blame them, and by then, their village would be in trouble.
But as they kept looking and looking.
They did not see me, the bride, but instead saw the ninety-year-old lady coming from the shrine, whom he had arranged to guard.
The old lady, dragging her body and panting for breath, as soon as she arrived at the scene, hurriedly spoke up.
"It's over! It's over!"
"The Fire God Bride's wedding gown has been stripped!"
"The priest's daughter-in-law, Tang Feifei, has abducted the Fire God Bride!"
In that instant, the faces of all the villagers at the scene froze.
