Nathan stood near the gate of his apartment, his hands inside his pockets, waiting like some nervous teenager waiting for a prom date. His heart was thudding for no reason.
Then a sleek black Mercedes pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down and he saw Evelyn waving at him with a smile.
"Hop in," she said, looking cool as ever.
Nathan opened the car door and sat inside.
But the moment he looked at her properly… his brain blanked out.
She was wearing a black crop top, a dark leather jacket, and tight jeans. Nothing too flashy, but somehow it looked… sexy. Like really sexy. Her lips were pink, her hair was falling freely on one side. Her whole vibe was just—
Deadly.
Nathan couldn't stop staring.
Evelyn noticed it.
Her cheeks went red slowly, and she rolled a strand of her hair on her finger. "Do I not look good today?" she asked, trying to tease but also hiding her own shyness.
Nathan blinked fast like he just came back from space. "No no—you… you look gorgeous… too much, actually."
He even gulped.
Evelyn smiled brightly. She started the car. For a while, there was silence.
Then suddenly, she asked with a small smirk, "So… you still wear those old shirts while going to dinner with a young beautiful lady?"
Nathan's mouth clicked. "I-I didn't think it was a… like… I mean—"
Evelyn laughed softly. "Relax. I'm just kidding."
But then she added, "Let's go shopping. I'll choose clothes for you."
Nathan scratched the back of his neck. "Uh… okay?"
And then off they went. A 15-minute drive to one of the biggest malls in the city. Looked too expensive.
They entered one branded clothing store. The floor was polished white, lights too bright, and everything smelled rich.
Evelyn didn't waste time.
She started looking through clothes like she was on a mission. Shirts, jackets, pants, even watches.
She held a summer shirt in front of Nathan, looked at him, then at the shirt, and shook her head. "Nope. Too soft. Not your vibe."
She picked 2–3 outfits and handed them to him. "Fitting room. Now."
Nathan nodded like an obedient kid and went inside.
The first outfit he wore was a grey and black mix shirt with dark blue pants. When he stepped out, Evelyn looked at him and walked up.
"Hmm…" she said and then stepped closer.
She adjusted his collar gently. Her fingers were soft.
And in that second—Nathan's brain kinda froze .
But then he heard giggles from nearby.
Some shop staff girls were looking at them, whispering to each other.
"Such a cute couple."
Nathan and Evelyn both turned red instantly.
Evelyn pulled back, coughed lightly, and said, "This outfit suits you."
Nathan tried two more. She approved all of them.
He felt like a little kid.
After everything, they walked to the counter. Nathan pulled out his card to pay but Evelyn pushed his hand away.
"Hey—I was paying—"
"I brought you here," Evelyn said in a teasing tone. "So shut your mouth."
Nathan sighed. "Fine. Thanks."
She smiled again. "You're welcome."
She also bought a stylish pair of black shoes for him. Paid for that too.
After everything, she looked at him and said, "Wear this one now."
She handed him the best combo. White shirt with black straight fit jeans and the new shoes.
Nathan changed and came back out.
Evelyn gave him a thumbs up. "Now you look like a man worth sitting next to."
Nathan chuckled. "You saying I looked like trash before?"
"Only a little," she teased and giggled a little.
They left the mall and got back in the car.
This time the silence between them felt… warm.
Not awkward.
Just quiet and comfortable.
They reached the restaurant. It was super fancy. Red carpet at entrance, a guy opened the car door for Evelyn.
Nathan tried to act cool but deep down, he felt out of place.
Inside, the waitress asked for the reservation name.
"Moreau," Evelyn said confidently.
They got taken to a private corner table near the window.
Evelyn ordered wine. Something fancy sounding. Nathan didn't even recognize the name.
Then she looked at him.
"I hope this place is okay."
Nathan nodded. "Yeah… I mean… I've never been in such a place before."
"I figured," she said with a small smile.
They started talking casually.
About work. The hotel project. The stock market high. Then somehow ended up talking about funny things from school days.
Evelyn laughed once, a real loud laugh. Nathan just watched her.
That same feeling came again.
This wasn't just business anymore.
Not just a system mission.
She felt… special.
Halfway through the wine, Evelyn asked, "So… what do you really want, Nathan? Like in life."
Nathan stared at his glass.
Then slowly said, "I want to build something. Something that doesn't fall apart. Like… an empire maybe."
She looked impressed. "Big dream."
Nathan looked up. "What about you?"
Evelyn smiled, but her eyes had something deep.
"I just want peace. And maybe someone who doesn't leave me again."
Nathan didn't know what to say. So he just nodded calmly.
Dinner came. Fancy dishes. Nathan didn't even know what to do with half the forks.
Evelyn helped him out, laughing quietly.
Evelyn looked at the city lights from the window and said, "Tonight it's really nice."
Nathan replied, "Yeah. It is."
They didn't hold hands or kiss.
But something shifted.
He could feel it.
The air between them changed.
Warm. Electric. Real.
The kind of moment any guy would remember even ten years later.
Ping.
