SOFIA

“Tell me,” Adrik whispered as he cradled me in his arms.

I closed my eyes, snuggling against his chest. I did not want to talk about what had happened earlier that night. Didn’t want to remember how scared I’d been or angry at Missy, at myself, for what that crazy bitch had done. I knew rich people could be selfish, but what she’d tried to do was truly heinous.

No, I did not want to remember, but after the way Adrik had come for me. Like some dark avenging angel, I couldn’t deny him anything. So, if he wanted those words from me, I would give them to him. I would give anything to him.

“Matthew had his man, Charles, grab me from the party. I’d left Marat to use the restroom, and he was stealthy about it. It wasn’t Marat’s fault,” I said, rubbing Adrik’s chest when he started to rumble.
