The brass-colored book landed in front of Leyton and began flipping its pages on its own, with no content on the slightly yellowed pages.
Leyton stared at this scene in a daze, completely unable to understand what this brass book, which had forcibly knocked away the previous Spirit World creature and cut in line to rush over, was trying to convey.
"Can you speak?" Leyton asked in ancient hermes, a language capable of leveraging natural forces.
The brass-colored book continued to flip its pages, flipping to the last page and then reversing to continue flipping, seemingly completely unable to understand Leyton's words.
Next, Leyton tried elf language and Dragonese, and finally, the book reacted to Dragonese. However, its reaction was only to change the way it flipped pages, and Leyton still couldn't understand what it wanted to express.
"If I write on your pages, can I communicate with you?" Leyton asked in Dragonese.
The brass-colored book stopped flipping its pages on its own and shook itself, seemingly indicating affirmation.
If it weren't for the strange way this brass-colored book arrived, as if it had been thrown from a height by someone, Leyton would have already packed it up and sent it back to the Spirit World.
Picking up a quill from a nearby desk, the brass-colored book, suspended in mid-air, very consciously floated in front of Leyton and opened to a page.
Leyton raised an eyebrow; this book seemed to possess some intelligence.
Leyton held the quill and directly wrote a sentence in Dragonese: What abilities do you have?
After this sentence was written, it slowly disappeared, as if it had never appeared, and Leyton raised an eyebrow in surprise.
I can be your Messenger.
A line of Dragonese appeared on the page, the handwriting identical to what Leyton had just written, and then slowly disappeared again.
Although it was interesting, the brass-colored book's reply was a bit nonsensical, and Leyton felt he had overestimated its intelligence.
He wrote another line of Dragonese on the book: What abilities do you possess?
After writing it, this line of Dragonese slowly disappeared again, and lines of Dragonese appeared: Generate blank paper, carry spells, transmit information.
These words did not immediately dissipate after appearing but remained on the paper, seemingly to facilitate Leyton's viewing.
"Transmit information? Can it really be a Messenger? But, it's not like someone summons it and then writes letters on it, right?!" Leyton was a bit curious about how this book transmitted information.
The ability to carry spells reminded Leyton of the Scrolls Professor of the Mystery Pryer pathway Sequence 6, who could directly create scrolls with spell effects. This should be a simplified version of the Scrolls Professor's ability.
Leyton felt that this ability would be a great help for him, who was currently at Sequence 7, and could greatly increase his means of dealing with enemies.
Although he somewhat disliked the intelligence of this brass-colored book, Leyton felt that this book was very suitable as a Messenger and could also double as a partial enforcer.
Leyton wrote another line of Dragonese on the page: How do I sign a contract with you?
Leyton knew the normal process of signing a contract with a Messenger, but he was not sure how to sign a contract with a book, mainly because Leyton could not determine whether this book was a normal Spirit World creature.
On the slightly yellowed page, the Dragonese Leyton had written slowly disappeared, and then sections of patterns with a unique charm and Dragonese words appeared one by one on this page.
This brass-colored book directly drafted a Messenger contract. Its reward for becoming a Messenger was that Leyton needed to periodically write Beyonder knowledge for this Book Messenger.
The Messenger's summoning incantation was also written in this contract: Spirit lingering in the void, an Upper World creature friendly to humans, the exclusive Messenger of 'Al Tines'.
'Al Tines' was the identity Leyton had prepared to use after leaving Feynapotter.
Leyton signed the name he had prepared for his new identity on the page and signed the contract with this brass-colored book, then he learned more about the abilities of this brass-colored Book Messenger.
It can generate many slightly yellowed papers. These papers are a relatively low-level Spirit World creature. These papers can be dispatched through the Messenger summoning ritual, allowing the summoner to directly write content on the papers, and then collect these papers to receive information.
It can also construct spell models on these papers using some Beyonder materials, and then activate them with corresponding incantations or actions when needed, somewhat similar to the Scrolls Professor's ability.
After learning about the abilities of this brass-colored book, Leyton very straightforwardly recorded the Hardening Technique and Watercolor Imaging Type 01, which he had just mastered, on this book.
The two spells Leyton had just recorded and the previously signed contract did not disappear like the words written on this book before, but remained on the topmost page.
After recording the spells, Leyton gently raised his hand, and this brass-colored book consciously followed the ritual channel, leaving reality and returning to the Spirit World.
Then Leyton tidied up the summoning ritual arranged in the room, restoring the room to its original state.
"Hoo ah~, happily acquired a Messenger of unknown origin. If I hadn't happened to see how this book descended, I probably would have just thought it was a special Spirit World creature. At least it's better than the huge, fishy-smelling Spirit World creature attracted by my incantation." Leyton muttered to himself.
Although this Messenger was of unknown origin, its abilities were indeed very useful, and Leyton could roughly guess who had thrown it down just now.
"I have a Messenger, the problem with the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom is also resolved, the rest is the Church of the Earth Mother. No matter what, I need to inform the Church of the Earth Mother and leave my Messenger's summoning method for easy communication, and perhaps I can even get another Mystical Item for free." Leyton planned his next steps in his mind.
Thinking that he might be able to get a Sealed Artifact for free from the Church of the Earth Mother, Leyton couldn't sit still. He grabbed his coat, put it on, and headed out to the Church of the Earth Mother's experimental field.
This experimental field was built on the previously corrupted Hawke Street, where the corruption had already been cleared. However, because the reason used to evacuate the residents before was a biochemical weapon leak, locals are now unwilling to approach that area, let alone have the former residents move back. The Church of the Earth Mother simply built two experimental fields there for grafting experiments.
The New Year hadn't fully passed yet, and there were many carriages and pedestrians coming and going on the street. Leyton finally found a carriage parked by the roadside after leaving his residence.
"Hello, to Hawke Street, uh, no need to go in, just stop nearby." Leyton quickly changed his words when he saw the coachman's face instantly turn difficult when he said Hawke Street.
The coachman then breathed a sigh of relief; as long as it wasn't entering Hawke Street, this business could still be done.
After the carriage took Leyton to the edge of Hawke Street, it immediately stopped. Leyton paid the carriage fee and then walked straight towards Hawke Street.
Seeing this, the coachman quickly called out to Leyton, warning him that Hawke Street was still very dangerous inside and not to approach.
"Don't worry, I'm not going in, I'm just looking for my rabbit on the outskirts." Leyton nodded in response.
After the coachman repeatedly confirmed that Leyton would not enter Hawke Street, he confidently drove the carriage away. Leyton saw the coachman driving the carriage away from the area, then changed direction and walked into Hawke Street.
The Church of the Earth Mother was keeping a close eye on this ongoing project, and even the personnel responsible for guarding the experimental field there were all Beyonders from the Church of the Earth Mother.
Leyton had been immersed in developing new spells during this period and rarely came here, so the Beyonders of the Church of the Earth Mother specifically screened him before letting him in.
