Chapter 0.6 – The Curtain Call That Might Be the Last (or Not)(aka: “If the Author Doesn’t Breathe, It’s Not My Fault” – Auren, Probably)

Spotlight: ON.

Confetti: Mistimed.

Mic: Stolen by Auren.

---

Auren appears on stage in a velvet jacket and too much eyeliner.

"Ladies, lords, traitors, emotionally unwell readers, and that one guy still convinced Cladus is a vampire—"

"Welcome… to the end."

"Or the maybe-end. Possibly the middle? Look, the author's passed out again, and I'm winging it."

He twirls. Trips on a scroll. Keeps going.

"Now, you might be wondering: 'Wait, where's Chapter 51?'

To which I say—same place as my father's affection.

Gone. Possibly buried in a wine cellar."

"Also, the author's fingers are currently broken from writing 40 chapters of pain and betrayal, and her lungs?

Holding for YOUR COMMENTS, you ungrateful gremlins."

"So this is me saying... maybe we'll be back next week.

Maybe never.

Maybe we'll get picked up by Netflix and Cladus will have a jawline so sharp it cuts screen time."

He sips strawberry milk. Glares at the Empress.

"And if you're wondering if I still hate Maelric?"

"Yes. But I hate myself slightly more, so it's character development."

A note floats down from the ceiling. Sevrin appears just to laugh and say:

"Hey Auren. You look kinda hot with short hair."

Auren combusts. The author flatlines again.

And then the tone shifts—

The lights dim.

Auren looks straight at the reader now. No smirk. Just eyes that have seen too many endings.

"If you've been with us from the beginning… thank you."

"For loving a jester who broke a queen."

"For forgiving a knight who couldn't kneel in time."

"For watching a girl die and still hoping she'd rise."

"If the story ends here… I'm glad you read it."

"And if it continues—"

He smiles. The real kind. The one he hasn't used since Chapter 9.

"I promise I'll be there."

"Lying. Smiling. Fighting."

"And maybe… finally telling the truth."

The curtains fall.

🖤 End of Chapter 0.6

(aka: The author might come back if you comment. Please comment. For the love of Auren's emotional stability.)
