Chapter 64: Misunderstanding!

Chapter 64: Misunderstanding!

"You seem to be sure that I will come."

Hearing Ye Weiyang's words, Lin Ze sat down where she pointed.

The front third of the room was divided into ten independent areas, each with a tea table in front of the seat. Even if Lin Ze brought companions, this area could still accommodate them comfortably.

The back two-thirds were composed of single seats, clearly separating the levels of privilege.

The people who could sit in the front ten seats were undoubtedly the most distinguished guests of this auction. Lin Ze's seat, though not in the center, had a prime view.

He could clearly see who was around him.

Ye Weiyang chuckled lightly at his words. "That's not the case. Weiyang just wants to make friends with Master Lin Ze, so I specially prepared this seat. Whether you came today or not, this seat was reserved for you. After all, the Holy Alliance Auction House hopes to cooperate more with the Moon Night Chamber of Commerce in the future."

Lin Ze didn't comment further. It was clearly just a polite and mutually beneficial gesture.

Just then, a noisy commotion came from the entrance.

Five elderly men dressed in distinct temple robes entered.

Behind each of them walked a younger figure—faces masked. These elders were clearly senior members of the temples, exuding powerful auras—each at the peak of the eighth level, only one step from the ninth.

Ye Weiyang leaned slightly toward Lin Ze and whispered, "These are the deputy hall masters of the six major temples, though Ying Suifeng from the Assassin Temple hasn't arrived yet."

Lin Ze's eyes followed them instinctively.

But before he could get a better look, one of the five—the elder with green hair and a white beard—walked over to Ye Weiyang with a ridiculous flourish.

In a greasy tone that barely masked his intentions, he grinned. "Miss Weiyang, it's been far too long. As soon as I received Master Feng's invitation, I came running. Why not have a drink with an old man like me?"

"Don't be fooled by my age—I'm still full of life! Not worse than those young men!"

He handed her a red wine glass he'd just picked up.

Ye Weiyang maintained her smile. "Palace Master Lin, I'm still working. I'm afraid I can't accompany you for a drink right now."

"It doesn't matter. The auction will end eventually. Miss Weiyang, you can't refuse forever. My entire Magic Temple conducts business through your Holy Alliance Auction, you know. Even if you don't like me, we should at least toast for work's sake."

Her expression barely changed, but even her professional facade was starting to crack.

She forced her smile, replying, "I'm really sorry, Lord Lin. I have a date with my boyfriend tonight. If it's about business, please consult me during official hours."

"Hah! Stop teasing me! I know you don't have a partner!" Lin Chen chuckled smugly, completely exposing her bluff.

Ye Weiyang was stunned—internally cursing his ancestors for being so meddlesome.

But just as she was struggling to come up with a response, she caught sight of Lin Ze standing up.

A light sparked in her eyes. Without hesitation, she stepped forward and linked arms with him.

"Palace Master Lin Chen, who said I don't have a partner? He's right here."

She clung to Lin Ze's arm with suspiciously intimate familiarity—so close he could feel the warmth and softness pressing against him.

But Lin Ze didn't react. His eyes were fixed on someone else—the girl standing behind the newly arrived group, clad in the Assassin Temple's signature outfit and a purple short skirt.

She wore a veil, hiding most of her face. But even that couldn't conceal her celestial features.

Her eyes—bright and clear, like a starlit river.

In that moment, the image of Cai'er from five years ago flooded Lin Ze's mind.

He recognized her.

And Cai'er, too, paused for a second as she looked at Lin Ze.

For reasons she couldn't explain, the man gave her a strange sense of familiarity.

At that moment, Ying Suifeng noticed Lin Chen shamelessly trying to flirt with Ye Weiyang. He scoffed, "Old man Lin, maybe shave next time before you start courting girls. You're old enough to be her grandfather."

But Lin Chen wasn't listening. His eyes were fixed on Lin Ze, filled with disbelief. "Is this brat really your partner?"

"Of course." Ye Weiyang didn't hesitate.

"I don't believe it!"

Smirking inwardly, Ye Weiyang tiptoed up and kissed Lin Ze on the cheek.

The moment stunned Lin Chen. He stumbled backward, clutching the table for balance.

How could this be?

He looked as if his soul had been sucked out.

Meanwhile, Lin Ze, whose attention had been fully focused on Cai'er, snapped back to reality as the warmth of Ye Weiyang's kiss lingered on his face.

He turned to her and frowned. "You..."

Before he could finish, Ye Weiyang leaned in, voice low and pleading.

"Mr. Lin Ze, please—just help me finish this scene!"

But before Lin Ze could answer, an intense, suffocating murderous intent suddenly erupted in the room.

It came from Cai'er.

The chill was so sharp that Ye Weiyang trembled where she stood, instinctively tightening her grip on Lin Ze's arm.

The terrifying aura drew everyone's attention toward Cai'er.

And they were all shocked—such overpowering murderous intent, emanating from such a young girl?

Ye Weiyang gulped audibly and stammered, "This... this distinguished guest… have I not treated you respectfully enough?"

Even Ying Suifeng was taken aback.

In all the years he'd known Cai'er, he had never seen her direct such intense killing intent toward anyone.
