Alpha Kaidon's POV
When I returned from a meeting with my father and the high-ranking officials of our pack, I hesitated before entering the room where my mate and I were staying. However, my confusion deepened when I saw her rushing toward me, arms open in an embrace.
I picked her up, my heart swelling with joy. Finally, she wasn't rejecting me. I laid her gently on the bed, relishing the moment until she suddenly tried to kiss me.
I wanted to kiss her back, but an unsettling feeling gripped me. My wolf, Jordan, growled in rejection.
Why is he rejecting our mate? I wondered, unable to shake off the unease creeping into my mind.
We had both longed for this bond, so his reaction shocked me. Despite the vulnerability in her expression, I resisted going further with her and instead stepped away.
Once outside, I scolded Jordan. "Why did you do that?" I demanded.
He let out a low growl. "There's something off about her. She doesn't smell like our mate. There's a strange scent clinging to her."
I frowned in frustration. "What do you mean? You confirmed she was our mate before."
"Yes, but that woman... she isn't her. She's an imposter," Jordan said with certainty.
A cold realization settled over me. "I'll deal with her," I vowed before striding back into the room.
The moment I stepped inside, my gaze met my mate's, and she flinched. The strange tension in my body dissipated, replaced with certainty. This is my mate.
I moved closer, concern etching into my features. "Are you alright?"
She shook her head. "No I'm not ."
My pace quickened as I reached her, taking her soft hand in mine. "What's wrong?"
Tears welled in her eyes. "The woman you saw earlier… that wasn't me. My friend impersonated me using dark magic. She wants to take my place as Luna. Her name is Felisha , an Obryn. Please… take her away from me."
Anger surged through me, but I first wiped away her tears. No one dares to steal what's mine.
"I'm so sorry about that. Where were you?" I asked, wanting to know where she had been.
"I was at the corner, here on this chair," she said, and I turned my eyes to the chair. At that time, I had caught the imposter looking in that direction, but wait... I was confused. She had been there, yet I hadn't seen her.
"But... I didn't see you," I said, and she nodded.
"Yes. I was invisible. She placed a knitted material on my lap I guess it was laced with invisibility magic," she replied.
I nodded in realization. But the real problem was who gave her access to black magic?
Black magic is forbidden in my pack. Though some Obryn here are hybrid witches and werewolves, we have strictly warned them never to use magic, let alone black magic. This is an issue I need to deal with before it puts my mate and the rest of the pack in danger.
"Drake... look for Obryn Felisha and bring her to the gathering ground. Also, gather all the pack members there," I mind-linked my Beta.
"Copy that," he responded.
Seeing me pause for a moment, my mate looked at me in confusion.
"Don't worry. I'm mind-linking my Beta to have her arrested," I assured her. She nodded in response and relaxed her shoulders.
"I'm sorry you had to go through this. I'll be right back," I said, but she held my hand, her eyes watery.
"Don't leave me here," she said, catching me off guard. I was surprised she would say that, but I didn't take it to heart. I knew she was afraid, and I couldn't take the risk of leaving her alone.
"Let's go together," I said, helping her off the bed.
I held her hand as we left the room. For the first time, I got to hold my mate in public, making me feel proud. Anyone we passed bowed in respect.
When we reached the gathering ground, I could hear the whispers of my pack members. The warrior wolves held the imposter she was crying and begging for mercy. I stepped in, holding my mate tightly.
"You dare impersonate my mate, trying to claim the position of Luna?" I spoke in my Alpha tone, making the entire pack fall silent.
"Please, Alpha, I'm so sorry for that! I promise it won't happen again," she pleaded.
"You dare use black magic on my mate? Who permitted you to use magic in my pack?" I asked, my voice cold, making her flinch.
"I-It's Obryn Lorain! She's a hybrid witch," she stammered, causing gasps of surprise to ripple through the pack.
"Bring her out!" I roared in anger.
Lorain stepped forward, immediately falling to her knees, shaking in fear.
"I'm so sorry, Alpha! She didn't tell me she would use it on the Luna!"
"Don't lie! I told you everything!" the imposter argued.
"Shut up!" I growled. "You two are banished from this pack!"
The warrior wolves seized them and dragged them away as their desperate pleas trailed off into the distance.
"Thank you," my mate said softly, and I smiled in satisfaction.
Days passed peacefully, and my bond with my mate grew stronger. My wolf, Jordan, loved that she was finally close to us.
Today is the day of the acceptance party and the coronation of my mate, a moment I have been looking forward to.
She looked breathtaking in a flowing gown of light and dark blue, adorned with beautiful, shimmering stones.
As she stepped into the gathering, my pack members erupted in cheers, clapping and smiling as their Luna made her way to the stage. She stood beside me, and I gently held her hand. When she smiled at me, a wave of warmth spread through me, sending butterflies to my stomach.
This time,it was my mother who placed the crown on her head and my park members erupted in cheers again.
