"Boom!"
A thunderclap split the sky, torrential rain poured down, drenching the earth.
Amidst the heavy rain, war drums thundered. Xiao Shaoyou was rallying the troops, calling all soldiers to fight.
The rain extinguished countless torches, leaving Yunyang Pass pitch black. Neither side could see the battle situation, only angry shouts and screams echoed through the rain.
A thousand-strong cavalry array stood five miles west of the city gates, the "Wanyan" banner high in the air, exuding a killing aura.
Luo Yu's gamble paid off. Wanyan Chang hadn't entered Yunyang Pass but stayed outside to command. Initially, he could see the city's fires, but now Yunyang Pass was shrouded in darkness and rain.
"General, the rain is too heavy. Shouldn't you rest in camp? We can watch here."
"No need. We'll take the city soon. I'll wait here."
Wanyan Chang smiled:
"It seems Kong Xian is more useful than Li Chengxiao, a capable talent."
He had received two surrender letters, so he camped and waited, knowing that even if Li Chengxiao was dead, Yunyang Pass's gates would open eventually.
"Charge!"
"Enemies are raiding, stop them!"
"Hurry!"
Before his smile faded, angry shouts came from the east of the cavalry array, with sounds of fighting. Wanyan Chang frowned:
"What's happening?"
"Report!"
A rider galloped over, shouting: "Dry soldiers are raiding our camp, we've sent troops to intercept them."
"How many troops at this time?"
"The night is too dark to see clearly, but it's a large force. I heard someone shouting 'Luo Yu' in the battle."
"So it's him?"
Wanyan Chang's eyes narrowed, thinking for a moment before smirking:
"Seems he's targeting me. This boy is not to be underestimated. In such a dire situation, he's not thinking of escape but planning to kill me to turn the tide.
Impressive courage."
"Just daydreaming."
The deputy general saluted: "General, should we withdraw some troops from the city to block the Dry army?"
"No need. They can't muster a thousand cavalry in the whole city. What's to fear?"
Wanyan Chang waved his hand: "Give me eight hundred cavalry, bring me Luo Yu's head."
"Agreed!"
The cavalry turned east, surrounding the battlefield. Wanyan Chang shook his head disdainfully:
"Good idea, but in the face of overwhelming strength, what use are tricks?"
...
"Charge!"
"I'm the Luo Yu you're looking for! Come on, try to kill me!"
"He's Luo Yu! The general ordered, whoever takes his head gets a hundred silver taels. Kill him!"
In the chaotic battlefield, a burly man shouted angrily, his spear stabbing through several Qiang soldiers, incredibly brave, shouting he was Luo Yu.
Looking closely, it was clearly Meng Hu!
Three Qiang cavalry charged at him, but he wasn't fazed. With one hand, he swung his spear forward with incredible force. The three Qiang soldiers couldn't block it and were knocked back bleeding.
"Strong! Ha ha!"
Xiao Wu appeared on the side. Though not as strong as Meng Hu, his spear technique was quite proficient. He charged at a Qiang soldier, stabbing him through the back with a clean thrust.
Xiao Wu wasn't the new recruit he used to be. He had killed at least seven or eight Qiang soldiers in recent battles.
"Ha ha, not bad!"
Meng Hu laughed loudly: "The Qiang aren't worth fearing. One spear through them still makes two holes. Let's give them a good fight today!"
Nearly a hundred cavalry charged through the battlefield, ignoring formation. In the darkness, no one could see clearly. The Qiang couldn't tell how many Dry soldiers there were, only feeling enemies all around.
Everyone fought desperately, knowing they had to hold back the eight hundred Qiang cavalry to have any hope of victory.
"Are you Luo Yu?"
The Qiang deputy general followed the shouts, his voice tinged with doubt. He had seen Luo Yu from afar that day, but this didn't seem quite right.
"Yes."
Meng Hu sneered:
"I'm your Feather Brother! Run if you want to live. I don't kill cowards."
"Insolent!"
The deputy general was enraged, charging with his spear:
"A mere recruit dares to be arrogant before me!"
"Here's my spear!"
"Look at your mother's head!"
Meng Hu didn't care about ranks. He swung his spear seven or eight times, each strike powerful. The deputy general's face showed surprise, his arms numb, muttering:
"This guy has incredible arm strength."
"Try another spear!"
Meng Hu closed in, using all his strength. The deputy general's face changed, desperately blocking his chest with his spear. But Meng Hu's strike was too powerful, making him spit blood.
The two were too close. The blood-spitting deputy finally saw Meng Hu's face, exclaiming:
"You're not Luo Yu!"
"Congratulations, you guessed right."
Meng Hu sneered: "Too late!"
"Damn, we're ambushed."
The deputy's face turned pale, shouting urgently:
"Alert the general immediately..."
"Thrust!"
Before he could finish, a spear pierced his chest. Meng Hu spat:
"Want to report? Dream on!"
...
"Rumble!"
"Boom!"
In the darkness, urgent hoofbeats sounded again, but this time from the west, opposite the east.
Wanyan Chang frowned, quickly turning to look west. A cavalry force seemed to be charging.
"Another ambush?"
Wanyan Chang suddenly realized, his brow furrowed, his eyes icy:
"East-to-west feint. Good boy, more surprises."
The cavalry from the west was smaller, only fifty riders, but they were the fifty best fighters under Luo Yu and Xiao Shaoyou. Each had a cold expression, determined to die.
If an hour ago they were thinking of survival, now they had only one thought:
Kill Wanyan Chang, defend Yunyang Pass!
Luo Yu's lips curled into a cold smile. Capturing the king requires strategy. He sent part of his force with Meng Hu to distract the enemy and disrupt the Qiang formation, while he led his fifty elite troops for the decisive strike!
It was cruel to make Meng Hu and Xiao Wu fight to the death, but it was the best plan Luo Yu could think of.
Two hundred against a thousand had low odds, but fifty against a hundred plus Qiang soldiers was different.
Unity and advantage on our side!
Facing the Qiang cavalry turning to fight in panic, Luo Yu charged forward first, shouting:
"Those unafraid of death can find life!"
His resolute shout pierced through the rain, reaching every soldier's ears. All spurred their horses forward, shouting in unison:
"Fight to the death!"
