Chapter 94 - The Weight of His Words and a Friend's Insight
The soft ringing of the phone echoed in my car as I waited for Damien to pick up. My fingers drummed nervously against the steering wheel while snowflakes continued their gentle descent outside. What would I even say? "Hey, don't listen to your friend who probably already texted you about seeing me with another man"?
"Hazel," Damien's deep voice answered after the third ring. "This is a pleasant surprise."
I took a deep breath. "Hi, Damien. I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."
"Nothing is more important than a call from you," he replied smoothly. I could almost hear the smile in his voice.
My heart fluttered traitorously. "I... I wanted to tell you something before you hear it from someone else."
"Oh?" Interest colored his tone. "This sounds intriguing."
