"Sterling, what have you done?"  I whispered, my voice trembling.  "He was just asking for help!"

My stepbrother's eyes, usually a deep emerald green, now glowed with predatory amber as he shifted partially back from his wolf form.  His breathing was heavy, primal.

"He was too close to you, Aurora.  His scent was all over you."  Sterling's voice was eerily calm as he wiped blood from his hands onto his dark jeans.  "No man approaches what's mine."

Mine.  That word made my skin crawl.  I wasn't his.  I was his stepsister, not his possession.

Chapter 58 - Forbidden Touch, Fearful Summons


I paced the length of my office, fury building with each step. Kaelen had gone too far. Using his power to destroy Liam's career crossed every professional and ethical boundary. My hands shook as I checked my watch—nearly thirty minutes since Liam left, and still no sign of Kaelen.


Where was he? I'd sent him three messages demanding to see him immediately.


My phone buzzed. Not Kaelen, but Liam: "Any updates?"


My stomach twisted. I'd promised to fix this mess, but how could I when Kaelen was deliberately avoiding me?


The office door suddenly swung open. Kaelen stood in the doorway, his imposing frame filling the space. He wore a charcoal suit that hugged his broad shoulders perfectly, his green eyes scanning me with that predatory gaze that always made my skin prickle.


"You wanted to see me?" His voice was deep, untroubled.


I stormed past him, slamming the door to his adjoining office behind us. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
