Chapter 97

Chapter 97 - Homecoming Secrets and a Rival's Entrance

The car pulled up to my childhood home, and I felt my stomach twist into knots. After what had just happened between Kaelen and me, I wasn't sure how I could face my parents with any semblance of normalcy. The Blood Claim he'd tricked me into still felt like a burning brand on my consciousness.

"Remember," Kaelen's voice was low as the driver opened the door. "Act normal. No one needs to know what happened between us."

I shot him a glare. "So even you know how wrong this is."

His hand gripped my wrist before I could exit the car. "Not wrong. Just private. Our business alone."

I yanked my arm free and stepped out, smoothing down my clothes. The familiar sight of my family home should have brought comfort, but today it felt like another stage for Kaelen's manipulation.

"Your lip is swollen," he murmured, close behind me. "Try not to draw attention to it."
