"Sterling, what have you done?"  I whispered, my voice trembling.  "He was just asking for help!"

My stepbrother's eyes, usually a deep emerald green, now glowed with predatory amber as he shifted partially back from his wolf form.  His breathing was heavy, primal.

"He was too close to you, Aurora.  His scent was all over you."  Sterling's voice was eerily calm as he wiped blood from his hands onto his dark jeans.  "No man approaches what's mine."

Mine.  That word made my skin crawl.  I wasn't his.  I was his stepsister, not his possession.

Chapter 21 - Forbidden Desires and Dangerous Deception


I could feel Sterling's breath on my neck before I saw him. The collision in the hallway wasn't just accidental—his body had positioned itself exactly where I would exit the restroom.


"Going somewhere in a hurry, little sister?" His voice was honey laced with poison.


My heart hammered against my ribs. Had he seen me with Liam? How long had he been standing there?


"I—I was just using the restroom." I took a step back, my spine hitting the wall.


Sterling's eyes narrowed, his gaze dropping to my lips. They still tingled from Liam's kiss. "Strange. I could have sworn I saw someone else go in there not long before you did."


"What's wrong, Aurora? You look... guilty." His fingers traced the bruise on my lip, the one he'd left there himself. "Did something happen in there?"


I forced myself to breathe. "Nothing happened. I need to get back to work."
