"Seraphina! I'm so glad you're okay!"

Isolde rushed toward me as soon as I entered the vacation house's expansive living room. Her long blonde hair flowed behind her like a golden waterfall, her blue eyes filled with genuine concern.

I managed a weak smile as she enveloped me in a tight hug. My body still ached from yesterday's attack in the woods, and from Kaelen's possessive handling afterward.

"I'm fine," I lied, pulling away from her embrace. "Just a little shaken up."

Isolde tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, studying my face. "When Kaelen carried you in yesterday, covered in blood, I thought—" Her voice caught. "I was so worried."

Guilt washed over me. Here she was, genuinely concerned about my wellbeing, while part of me still simmered with irrational jealousy. Every time I saw her with Kaelen, smiling and comfortable in a way I never could be, that ugly emotion reared its head.
