Chapter 11 - The Unthinkable Colleague
I paced back and forth in my room, clutching my secret phone to my chest. When I was sure everyone had gone to bed, I dialed the one number that made my heart race with both hope and fear.
"Sera." Liam's voice came through immediately, warm and concerned. "I was worried when you didn't call yesterday."
"I'm sorry," I whispered, sinking onto my bed. "Sterling's been watching me like a hawk. I couldn't find a moment alone."
The mattress dipped beneath my weight as I curled up against the headboard. Outside, the moon cast eerie shadows across my room—shadows that seemed to take the shape of Sterling's looming presence even when he wasn't there.
"Has he hurt you?" Liam asked, his voice hardening.
"Not physically." I closed my eyes. "It's more like... he's everywhere. In every decision I make, every breath I take. I can't escape him, Liam."
