Chapter 24 - The Weight of 'Mine': A Dangerous Ultimatum
"Mine? Is everything okay?"
Those two words echoed in my ears like a death knell. The unfamiliar male voice coming through my secret phone—the phone Kaelen now held to his ear—had just signed someone's death warrant.
Kaelen's eyes darkened dangerously, his jaw tightening as he stared at me with such intensity I felt physically burned by his gaze.
"Who. Is. This?" he growled into the phone, each word dripping with venom.
I couldn't breathe. My chest constricted painfully as I watched rage transform Kaelen's handsome face into something terrifying. Before the person on the other end could respond, Kaelen hurled the phone against the wall with such force that it shattered into pieces.
"Kaelen, please—" I began, backing away until my legs hit the edge of the bed.
"Who was that?" he demanded, stalking toward me. His voice was deceptively quiet, making it all the more frightening. "And why did he call you 'mine'?"
