Chapter 7

Chapter 7: The Mate Reveal and Public Humiliation

A week dragged by since Caleb's party, and I couldn't shake the memory of Lucian's kiss. Random tears would spring to my eyes during class, in the shower, while eating dinner. I couldn't explain it to myself, let alone others.

"What the hell is that on your neck?" Vivienne gasped during lunch three days after the party.

My hand flew to my neck. "What?"

She leaned closer, her eyes widening. "Is that a hickey? Aria Calloway, you've been holding out on me!"

Heat flooded my face. "It's nothing."

"That is definitely not nothing." She pulled me into the empty classroom nearby. "Spill. Now."

I broke down, telling her everything—the dark hallway, the kiss, the mistaken identity.

"That bastard," she hissed, her eyes flashing. "I'll kill him."

"No! Promise you won't say anything," I begged. "Please, Viv. It's embarrassing enough."

She reluctantly agreed, but I could see the fury simmering beneath her promise.
