Chapter 36

Chapter 36: Bedroom Confrontation and Painful Accusations

I stood frozen, staring at Lucian as he sat on the edge of the bed. The shock of finding him here, in this room, made my heart hammer against my ribs. I had just told Gareth it was over between us, but here was Lucian, watching me with those intense dark eyes that seemed to see right through me.

"Surprised to see me?" He smirked, his voice low and mocking. "Were you expecting someone else?"

I swallowed hard, my hand still on the doorknob. "I need to go."

When I turned to leave, his hand shot out, grabbing my wrist. Before I could protest, he pulled me back and pressed me against the door, his body uncomfortably close to mine.

"Running away again?" he taunted, his breath warm against my face. "That seems to be your specialty."

"Let me go," I whispered, struggling to keep my voice steady. The memory of his cruel words in the storeroom flashed through my mind. "Please, just leave me alone."
