"Where are we going?" I asked for what must have been the tenth time as Lucian led me deeper into the forest, my hand clasped firmly in his.
"It's a surprise," he replied, the same answer he'd given me all morning. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he glanced back at me. "Just trust me."
Trust. Such a simple word, yet so complicated between us. But I did trust him now—more than I ever thought possible again.
"We've been walking for nearly an hour," I pointed out, stepping over a fallen log. "Is this surprise in another territory?"
He laughed, the sound echoing through the trees. "Impatient, aren't we? We're almost there."
