CHAPTER 23: THE FORTUITOUS

Huney's POV*

Van: You have to wake up, babe. If not for me, then for these two. You suffered a lot for them just to give up now? Never, just...... just wake up babe please I'm begging you.

I've been standing here on the door, listening to him speaking with someone who can't answer him. It's so painful, but we are all helpless.

He stood up after some minutes and turned to look at me.

Van: (faking a smile) how.....how long have you been standing there, you.....ypu idiot.

Me: it's OK to cry, you know. It doesn't matter if you are a man or not. You are a human, after all.

Van: That's nonsense.

Me: You know I'm right. Let's go and sit in the sitting room.

Van: So that you can start crying? Hell no.

Me: (laughing) I won't, I promise.

He came to me laughing, and we were your royalty's room. Went to the sitting room and sat down quietly for a few minutes before he broke the silence by clearing his throat.

Me: Is it dry? Let me bring you a glass of wine.

Van: Not today, please. Until Royalty wakes up, I'm not having anything that's alcoholic. I have small babies to look after.

Me: I never thought I'd see this day, doctor.

Van: things change. How is my niece doing in there?

Me: I always tell you that it could be a boy.

Van: And i always tell you that it's avgirl. Let's do the scan.

Me: Never, let's watch a movie then.

Van: Do you think she will ever wake up? Because we can just switch off the machine and just end....

Me: No, Van, she will wake up. It might be today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or any other day, but she will wake up. Just....just don't be negative.

Van: I'm trying, but for how long. She is not changing, nor is she even responding to the medicine. It's like.....she is not fighting at all. I'm here struggling to help her, but I'm trying my best. I'm just.....I'm just fighting a lost battle already.

Me: But how can you say that. How do you know that she is not fighting?

Van: Me and you both know that I'm not wrong. I'm a human, I need her, and if it's not me, then her kids need her. Surely I can take care of them but they need their mother also.

Me: But brother, she is...

I got interrupted with the doorbell. We both looked at each other.

Van: expecting a visitor.

Me: What, me, never, I mean no.

Van: You are the only person who gets visitors in my how Hun

He said, and he went to open the door for the person who was knocking.

Me: My name is Huney. Don't compare me with that idiot!

I screamed on top of my lungs but to my surprise he didn't answer back. I stood up only to be met by the so-called Hun with his dearest wife, The Puleng.

Hun: So I'm the idiot?

I just clicked my tongue and went to Royalty's room.

I sat on the bed holding her hands, and to my surprise, they were warm. I mean, her hands and feet were always cold, so how come they are warm now.

Me: Van....Van!

I shouted for him, and he came in running seconds later. He looked at me with a worried face. I'm sure he thinks something is wrong.

Me: Look, her hands are warm. Even her feet. Just touch them and see.

I said, looking at him even though Hun is also here , I just don't care about him at all. Van kept on looking at me and also did the same. After a few minutes, he looked at Royalty as I closed my eyes, thanking God for this sign. I mean, in a sign that she is waking up, she is making progress.

Van: Oh my God.

Hun: What?

Me: What are you doing here? Leave, this is not your house.

Hun: You can't chase me out...

Van: she is right. Please leave. I don't want us to end up fighting, so just leave.

Hun: But I didn't....

Puleng: Van, can you just please listen to what.....

Van: And who gave you the permission to talk and in whose house?

Hun: I just came to....

Van: What do you want Hun Whale?

Hun: I want my kids.

Van: (chuckle) Touché Hun Whale.

Me: Now I've seen it all.

Hun: I don't want drama or anything. I just want to be in my kids' lives.

Me: Hun where were you all this time. These kids are 6 months old, so tell me for 6 months where were you and even before they were born where were you?

He wanted to say something but couldn't, I guess words can't come out now. They are stuck on his throat, I guess.

Me: I guess you can't speak now. Cat cut your tongue.

Puleng: Huney, you can't come between two men who are.....

Me: I'm not coming between two men here. Just so you know Hun is my brother. He might not like me, but whenever he is wrong, I'll always tell him, just like when he married your ass.

Hun: Huney, watch your mouth now. One has ever told you what to do with your personal life.

Puleng: Just like having a fatherless child that....

Van: Are you done ganging up at my sister? If you are, please leave. You seem like you cane to fight and this is not the place.

I turned looking back to Royalty because I'm tired of fighting with these two. Van should just finish with them.

Me: What the.....brother!

Van: Huney, what is it? I'm....oh my God, babe, you are awake....I knew it, I knew that you would wake up.

He said, taking his things and checking her out. Madam here didn't say anything, but I could see tears coming out of her eyes. Her face was not showing any emotion or even pain.

I'm just wondering what she is thinking because by the looking of things, she was awake since we started arguing. Meaning she heard everything.

Me: Brother, is she ok? Why isn't she saying anything?

Van: Can everyone leave, please?

Hun: But I also.....

Van: Are you a doctor now Hun?

He didn't say anything. He just looked down.

Van: I thought so, too. Can you do me a favour.

Hun: What?

Van: As soon as Royalty is ok to talk, I'll tell Huney to give you a call, but for now, please leave.

Puleng: My love, let's go. we will come back again tomorrow.

They walked out, and I followed them as I heard Van heaving a sigh and clicking his tongue. I just smiled as I walked through the passage, and the couple is gone, but arriving into the sitting room, they are there.

Me: And then?

Hun: Can we act like adults and not like kids, please?

Me: the nerves of telling me that bullshit. So you were acting like an adult when you were denying your kids, right?

He kept quiet but I could see he wanted to say something but he couldn't. I want him to feel the pain Royalty has been feeling all this time.

Me: I thought so, too. Please leave.

He looked at me one last time before they left. I sat down for a few minutes before one of the twins started crying. I'm sure it's prince, he is the one who loves attention too much.

I stood up and went to the room, and I'm met by Van, who was just standing looking at Royalty with a defeated face.

Me: What's going on?

Van: she is not talking or making any movement, I've tried and checked everything, and nothing is wrong.

Me: Maybe she is...

Van: No, there is no a maybe here she is just....

Royalty: Can I see them.

Van: What!

Me: It's about damn f*cking time.

Royalty: I said, "Can I see them."

Van: And you, what did I say about swearing while you have my nieve in your womb? Don't test me, Huney, and you. Do you want to kill me with a heart attack or high blood pressure? Why were you quite all along?

Royalty: I was observing you, can I?

Van: You are my idiot ypu know that? Of course, why not.

I had already taken the prince who was crying, and so I went with him to his mother as Van took the princess.

Royalty: What are their names?

Me: we didn't name them.

Royalty: Come on, you can't stay with babies without naming them. How long was I out? 4 months?

Van: No.

Royalty: 5.

Me: No, 6 months.

Royalty: What! And you stay with these two without naming them, so how were you talking to them?

Van: Well, we figured their mother would love to be the one to name them. Do the honour, please.

Me: it's true. We were just calling them prince and princess.

Royalty: Thank you so much for seeing it worth waiting for me for this, and also, thank you, Huney, for taking such good care of them. They look healthy, the same way I pictured they would, if I was taking care of them myself.

*ROYALTY'S POV*

I looked at these two with my heart in so much pain because of love. It's like I've been with them since they were born when I've been with them just for a few minutes.

I lifted my head and looked at these two, and Huney is giving Sid fun faces and laughing at him while Sid is just being annoying and looks like he could kill a person right now.

Me: What's going on?

Sid: You said Huney was taking care of the twins really nice when it was all me

Huney: What, that's not true.

Me: Well.....

Sid: she is lying ok. I'm the one who was doing everything. All she does is look at them admiring them and lazing around nothing else.

Me: I guess my doctor here will take the credit, sorry, sis.

Huney: But that's not fair. I was working ok.

Sid: With that big belly like you swallowed a ball? I don't think so.

Huney didn't say anything, but she started crying there and there. Oh God , was I also acting like this? Like crying for nothing, hell no.

Me: Hey, don't listen to this idiot. He is an idiot he doesn't know what he is saying. The credit goes to you. You worked really heart. I love you, ok? Come here, come and take a hug.

I said, giving the kids to Sid and Hun came, and I hugged me.

Me: Ok, I'm gonna give these two their first names, and you will give them their second ones.

Hun: Yes, I'll name my princess.

Sid: Fine with me, I'll name my prine.

Me: Ok, so this is.....
