Chapter 1: The Rebirth of Annihilation.
"Such monstrous power… Are you, perhaps, Vaelthar? The Primordial of Annihilation?" I asked, my voice calm despite the devastation before me. Fear had no place here.
The figure stopped for a moment, taking in my words. "I see, you know of me huh?" He said, as he looked down at the ground towards me, answering my question. "Not many are aware of me. However, to answer your question…"
He spread his arms wide, his presence suffocating. "Yes, I am Vaelthar. The Primordial of Annihilation and the Progenitor of the entire Annihilot race."
"Now, as you have received your answer. Let us continue."
Before I could react, he dashed toward me at an unfathomable speed—so fast that he seemed invisible.
A sharp gasp escaped me as I barely tried to dodge, but the impact still caught my arm. A searing pain shot through me.
"Gah!" I yelped, clutching my wounded arm.
Vaelthar watched the slight yelp, I had made from the attack received. "I seemed to have overestimated you, perhaps."
He raised a hand, dark energy crackling around his palm before forming into a deadly beam. With a smirk, he fired it directly at me.
I used one of my self-made technique, Moonlit Stasis to counter it. My eyes shifting into a glowing silver hue. The air around me shimmered as time slowed for everything except myself, allowing me to evade the deadly beam just in time.
Vaelthar tilted his head, intrigued. "Interesting… You certainly have potential."
"Moonlit stasis allows me to react to other attacks faster than normal. I assume that won't be too much for you?" I replied, explaining my technique as I knew it was of no use to hide it against such a being.
"I see. Interesting." Vaelthar answered. Intrigued by the technique. "An Essence like this wasn't made by the Aether Lords, so impressive of you to make a technique like that through the ice element."
Without hesitation, he conjured a dark energy storm, its radius vast enough to engulf the entire battlefield.
I attempted to use Moonlit Stasis once more to escape, but something felt different.
Before I could react, time snapped back to normal, and the storm struck me full force.
"What—Argh!" I gasped as pain surged through my body.
Vaelthar watched, his tone devoid of any sympathy or pity. As he explained, what happened. "My attacks don't just cause damage; they absorb energy. The larger the attack, the more energy it drains."
I could feel it. The energy was being sucked right out of me, leaving me struggling to even remain on my feet. The beam, the blast, and now this storm… Each attack had left me weaker than before.
I collapsed to my knees, trembling. Such a monster of pure power… The thought haunted me as I lay there, barely able to move.
Vaelthar stepped closer, his shadow looming over me. "Time to end this," he murmured, summoning his Annihilots and directing them toward me.
I tried to stand, but the energy drain had rendered my body useless. "Crap…" I muttered, realizing I was defenseless.
Suddenly, a sharp distortion of space echoed through the battlefield.
A brilliant purple energy looking like a lesser spirit crashed down upon Vaelthar, slamming him into the ground. At the same time, a green aura flashed through the air, weaving between the approaching annihilators. In an instant, they burst apart, massive vines erupting from their cores.
From the green energy emerged a familiar figure. A female human-like figure, her hair white and long reaching her back. She wore a green outfit covering her arms and legs completely. A white high neck underneath. Her eyes emerald-green. A small green hairclip on her hair.
My Mother, Yuren Xia.
The Primordial of Life and the Progenitor of the Human race.
"You alright, sweetheart?" my mother, Yuren Xia, knelt beside me, her voice laced with concern. Her hands glowed softly as she healed my wounds.
"Just… exhausted," I muttered, struggling to my feet with her support.
As the purple energy solidified into a humanoid form, Vaelthar's expression darkened. His eyes widened in recognition.
"You," he spat, venom dripping from the single word.
Standing before him, exuding an overwhelming presence, was none other than Astraeus Caelren — my father.
The Primordial of Balance and the Progenitor of the Angel race.
He held a great-sword in his left hand. His figure a majestic look of purple and silver coloured coat. A black suit underneath the majestic coat. A pair of white angelic wings on his back. His eyes violet in color with short brown hairs.
Vaelthar stared, his confidence undeterred. Before, he chuckled "Heh… Don't think you can defeat me, Astraeus. I have devoured the souls of countless beings—even Monster Kings and recovered a good amount of my strength!"
With a crazed grin, he raised his hands, summoning a monstrous dragon composed of pure Annihilation Energy.
It's wings completely mirroring the void. Eyes white with no pupils. It's scales shiny under the sunlight and black in color.
"Just you wait," he hissed. "I'll break you both and claim your souls. Then, not even the Astral Sovereigns will be able to stop me from having my revenge!"
With those final words, he vanished through the space-time crack from which he had come.
For a moment, I was confused. Why would he leave after summoning such a beast? But realization struck almost immediately.
That dragon… It contains nearly as much energy as he does.
Summoning it must have drained a significant portion of his power. He left to recover, leaving behind a creature of near-equal strength to finish us off.
The dragon let out a deafening roar, its maw opening wide as a destructive void beam surged toward Astraeus.
My father stood firm; his expression unwavering. "Such absurd power…" he muttered. "Impressive. But I shall not fall to the likes of you, not when Zephyria and Zephyros still stand."
With a single, precise movement, he raised his sword and blocked the attack.
Then, in a blinding flash, he dashed forward and cleaved the Annihilot in half with a single, decisive slash.
As the massive creature disintegrated into nothingness, Astraeus exhaled.
"So…" he murmured, turning back to me. "It seems the catastrophic war of the past is about to begin anew."
He knew he had a lot to explain.
Not just to me, but to all of Zephyria.
