New Quest

The weather was perfect.

For once, Cael didn't have to drag himself to work, and he fully intended to make the most of it by staying wrapped in his blanket, sprawled across the rented bed in his cramped little room. Everyone knew the sweetest sleep came on holidays—when the constant, grinding stress of work wasn't looming over your head.

He was just on the edge of drifting off, warm, drowsy, limbs heavy, when an all-too-familiar ding echoed through the room.

A groan escaped him as he buried his face deeper into the pillow. "Tsk… what is it now, System? Can't you see I'm doing good deeds?"

The System's voice replied flatly, "Good deeds? You mean wasting time horizontal? Get up. There's a quest. Time-limited."

Cael cracked one eye open, his tone still lazy. "Spell it out."

The System didn't waste time. "Simple. Reach Westminster, Soho district. You've got one hour."

Ding!

Quest: Finding the Location

Objective: Arrive at London's Westminster, Soho area, near the park, within 1 hour.

Reward: Unknown

Penalty: Unknown

Cael eyed the translucent blue quest window floating in the air, unimpressed. The details were vague, barely even an objective beyond showing up. But ignoring the System wasn't exactly wise—the last time he did that, his toothbrush started playing opera music every time he used it.

With a sigh, he rolled out of bed, threw on a set of clothes suitable for blending into the Muggle world, and caught a bus toward the designated location.

By the time he arrived at the park in Soho, the city was alive with its usual buzz. People moved to and from their jobs, groups chatted by benches, and couples did their typical couple things—hugging, kissing, laughing like they had nothing better to do.

The sight soured Cael's mood instantly.

"Oi, System…" he muttered under his breath, hands shoved into his pockets. "Where's the part that isn't a giant reminder of how single I was in my last life?"

The System's tone turned smug. "Maybe walk around a bit. You might stumble across something interesting. Besides, you were single because you barely left your room. Social interaction, ever heard of it? And let's be real… you weren't exactly easy on the eyes either."

Cael twitched, a vein practically popping on his forehead. "I wasn't single because I didn't interact. I chose not to—after that one girl I liked ditched me for some walking protein shake with arms. And I wasn't ugly, just… average. I had height. Some girls like that."

"Height means nothing when you walk around with the charisma of wet Dog . You expected them to line up and confess? Idiot. You didn't work on yourself, and—"

The System's relentless criticism was abruptly cut off by a sharp sound—a girl's raised voice echoing from a narrow alleyway nearby, followed by rough male laughter. The kind of sound that didn't sit right with Cael's instincts.

His curiosity—or maybe the ever-present suspicion that the System had orchestrated this whole scene—pulled him toward the alley.

Peering around the corner, he immediately recognized the situation: a lone girl, cornered by several men who oozed that greasy, low-level thug energy. Their body language screamed intimidation—their leering smiles, their invasive proximity—and yet the girl's face remained eerily composed. Her expression was calm, but her trembling hands betrayed her fear.

Cael exhaled slowly. "System… why do I feel like I've stepped into a Chinese Cultivation novel? You know, the 'saving the damsel, earning her heart ❤️ ' kind of cliché?"

The System's voice was blunt. "Cut the Bullshit and Do something before you lose your chance."😒

Rolling his eyes, Cael raised his voice theatrically, loud enough for every passerby to hear.

"YES, OFFICER! Over here! These men—yes, these ones—they're harassing a minor! I think they're trying to kidnap her!"

The effect was immediate. The thugs bolted like startled rats, proving exactly what they were. Within seconds, the alley was empty, save for him and the girl.

As Cael stepped further in, he got a proper look at her face. Familiarity tugged at the edge of his memory—he knew her . Her facade of calm held firm, but the slight tremor in her fingers hadn't stopped.

He tilted his head, voice casual but laced with concern. "You alright?"
