On the way to the forest's heart, Isa had encountered a few mutated Voragoth Thrashers who also seemed to be heading toward the demon princess's direction.
The hybrid woman had a much easier time fighting them this time. Well, not really fighting since she only stood behind her shield while figuring out the usage of elemental power...which was quite tough to control.
However, she figured her mana capacity exceeded that of Demons, so she didn't mind always failing. Upon reaching the quest area, she had clearly sat on a tree to study the Regal Knight's half-hearted fighting and perhaps to take a bit of amusement while at it.
As expected, the knight did try to run away.
"Uh huh, not so fast." Isa had said before finger gunning at the fleeing Knight.
She shot a small light particle at his waist; however, since her aim was cow dung, it pierced through his metal armour and hit his leg instead, paralysing it.
The Knight yelped before tripping to a nearby bush. She shot another at his good leg, also disabling it.
After doing so, she leisurely watched Veronica with a hand under her chin, intently watching every one of her refined swings at the Darkspawn Wraith.
A smile crept on Isa's face as she took in the woman's appearance whole. She was undoubtedly beautiful, maybe more than her sisters.
"So, this is how the psycho witch looked before her glow down huh?"
Yes, glow down. In the game, Veronica's face was always covered, but in the chapter before the grand finale, when she is about to be burned alive by the main leads, she reveals her true face.
Pale white skin, glowing bloody eyes retracted too deep within her skull, tangled faint red hair and a thin mouth with a Cheshire cat grin when declaring how she would eat the male lead's core—a chill ran down Isa's spine by just thinking about it.
There was no way she would let this beauty turn into such a creep just yet.
And there Isa was instantly by Veronica's side when she was at the brink of getting her head split open.
"Are you okay now, Princess? Can you stand up?" Isa asked, after introducing herself.
She extended her hand for the demon princess to take.
However, her concerns were ignored when Veronica pulled herself up and walked away in a different direction.
"Ah princess, that's not—
"We need to look for my Knight." She said cutting Isa off.
"Oh, the blonde guy passed out behind the tree?" Isa acted oblivious before pointing behind the bush where she paralysed the poor guy.
Veronica instantly went in the pointed direction with Isa boredly following behind.
"Oh lord, Javi!" She instantly gasped when she saw the blonde guy, who was trying his best to crawl far away from them.
The guy nervously looked back at Veronica and the unknown demon with her.
"A-ah Princess, I'm so glad you're okay."
Veronica knelt down beside him before looking at the demon woman behind her.
"Heal him." She demanded.
Isa's eyebrows twitched and her mouth slightly opened, wanting to throw a curt response.
'Shouldn't this woman ask why this dumbfvck was trying to run away?'
"Apologies. I have used most of my mana in locating and healing Your Highness. I'm afraid I don't have enough to treat his complicated wounds as well as finding our way back." She answered, slightly bowing.
Veronica glared at her with her teeth clenched tight. Isa rolled her shoulders back and looked away scratching her head. Of course, she told a lie. She wouldn't heal the asshole she had just paralysed.
"Well, we can still make it to the court of Dragons if we start now." She said, side eyeing the paralysed guy who seemed frozen.
Veronica nodded and proceeded to help Javi but Isa instantly intervened.
"Allow me. An honourable Princess such as your Highness shouldn't be doing it."
Saying that, she scooped Javi up in a bridal style.
"Y-you-
He stuttered, seeming a bit embarrassed at being carried like that by someone.
"What? Flushed because of getting treated like a princess?" Isa slyly smirked at him.
His face contorted in irritation.
"Excuse me? But what is your identity?"
"You need not know."
Isa then looked at Princess Veronica, who was throwing a sharp look at them. However, Isa couldn't make anything as the reason.
"Let us move, Your Highness."
◇◇◇
The trio carefully made their way through the forest. Fierce beasts attacked them on the way, and Isa and Veronica were barely able to avoid them while finding their path out of the heart.
Isa might've been a bit happy to level up to 6, but she couldn't deny that barely clearing the monsters while carrying and being attentive to the person in her arms tired her to the core.
Her stamina was after all, still low.
When they were almost at the Dragon kingdom's main gate, Isa suddenly asked the demon princess who was now taking the lead walking a bit ahead of them,
"Now that I think of it, Princess Veronica, how did you end up right at the forest's heart?"
Isa didn't wait for Veronica's reply and in the hopes of creating suspicion she innocently said while looking at the pale Knight in her arm,
"Perhaps you got lost? Or was it someone who deliberately took you there?"
"What are you implying? You think I deliberately took our princess there?!" Javi snapped at Isa, earning an amusing look from her.
"Heh, I'm not implying anything, Regal Knight Javi. I'm a wondering Demon, asking questions is my forte. But did you really not know where you were leading the princess?"
Javi's face paled more, but nonetheless, he held his ground.
"I would—
"Enough, both of you." Veronica's authoritative voice made them quiet down.
They had both been bickering with each other along the way to the dragon kingdom, which made the demon princess rather irritated.
"A man's mind is not invincible to forgetfulness. Previously, considering the dense atmosphere of the forest, it would not be unusual for someone, despite being experienced to forget their way. I'm just pleased that we made it back safely."
Her piercing, bloody eyes squinted at Isa with a cold, firm gaze.
"However, that doesn't excuse how you tried to accuse my Knight of such an act. He is a Regal Knight, a demon of honour, yet you, as a lowly wondering Demon, talk in such rude manners with him, it's utterly unacceptable."
Veronica's tone sent Isa off guard as well as made her want to snicker at her for such foolishness. It became clear that the Demon princess was biased towards the knight, ignoring all possible signs of his betrayal.
Javi threw a smug look at Isa, which made her want to pierce a light beam into his brain.
He then turned to Veronica with a smile which made her want to vomit this time.
"Thank you for trusting me, Princess."
The demon princess nodded before looking away, her cheeks holding a bit of redness.
The whole thing pissed Isa more.
"Hah guess your smile is as fake as that horn of yours." She whispered, not really directed to anyone.
However, Javi clearly heard her, and Veronica's ears even twitched a bit, which didn't catch Isa's eyes.
"W-what?" He also whispered, his agitated face looking at Veronica to check if she heard anything.
Isa just smirked at him. Javi, panicking, tried to wriggle out of her grasp, but his paralysed lower part made it almost impossible.
The demon woman frowned as one of her eyes unconsciously glowed red. Instantly a small light particle manifested near Javi's throat.
She then smiled at him, a clear warning in disguise.
"Pardon me for my impertinent behaviour then, your Highness. However, I mean no harm. If Your Highness felt that way, I could only pray that the Gods guide the truth to your heart."
Veronica didn't reply but only continued to walk with a solemn expression. However, no one noticed how her hands were twitching to form a fist and her jaw slightly tightening.
They soon went through the gate and were met with a group of Magnificent and Regal knights, preparing to depart; however, when their captain saw Veronica, they bowed.
A few Regal Knights hurried to her, asking if she was okay.
Then Javi was taken away to a medical centre nearby as per Veronica's order. The princess herself wanted to follow them but Isa reminded her that she was to be immediately summoned to the queen upon her arrival at the court of Dragons.
Much to her reluctance, she had to board a dragon carriage with the wandering demon.
