Alexander heard this, and his interest was suddenly piqued.

"Go on."

Marcus, seeing the tension ease, mistakenly believed his words were having the desired effect and pressed on with his story.

"Actually, that day, an admirer of mine—a female fan, you know—she managed to intrude, and she got into a rather heated argument with my partner..."

Marcus continued, completely absorbed in his own account, utterly failing to notice the increasingly thunderous expression on Alexander’s face.

Because in Marcus’s twisted version of events, Garcia was being painted as the one who had destroyed a relationship—essentially, a homewrecker.

"Enough."

Alexander could listen no more, his voice sharp as he cut Marcus off.

Marcus, witnessing Alexander’s palpable fury, froze for a heartbeat, then the horrifying realization dawned on him: he had said entirely the wrong thing.

"Assistant," Alexander queried, turning to the aide behind him, "was all of that recorded?"
