Mo Seris quickly reached into the cradle and put a hand over Naro's mouth.
He felt a warm breath on his palm, and he let out a sigh of relief.
Not dead, just sleeping.
Mo Seris did not know what the consequences would have been for bringing back a dead baby. It had never happened under his watch before. However, he was sure that it would not have been pleasant.
Thinking back on it, he realized that he had overreacted, perhaps due to how suddenly the infant's behavior changed.
However, the fact that an active baby fell asleep should not have come as a surprise. Before, it was moving around as much as three babies combined, so it was natural that it would wear itself out.
In any case, the scare had passed.
Mo Seris began to contemplate the infant's previous behavior once again. It did not seem normal.
What if the baby really was extraordinary?
Its talents would have to be hidden deeply enough to fool the measures of the Song medicine man. Just what would those talents be?
Was there a change that the infant had something more than just an immortal fate? Could there be an inherent physique?
Mo Seris's pulse began to quicken, as his mind went wild with speculation.
What if the baby had a Flawless Body, a physique that had perfect compatibility with spiritual energy?
Every so often, there was news of such a physique cropping up in some town or another in the Black Mountain Dominion. The owner of the physique was always snatched up quickly by a Black Mountain power.
Why couldn't it be Brightsteel Town that birthed a Flawless Body? Why couldn't it be the Song Family?
There was little rhyme or reason to such things. There were no parents who were predisposed to have children with special physiques. The potential for atavism was present within all humans.
It was up to heavenly providence whether the atavism would occur.
However, a Flawless Body was not the only physique that could potentially appear. It was just the most common of the physiques. As long as he was daydreaming, Seris Mo could not help but dream as large as possible.
What if the infant had been born with the infamous Tyrant Body, a physique with the physical potential of a Beast King?
It was a physique that was far more rare than the Flawless Body, rumored to appear only once every hundred years. In the current generation, the Black Mountain City Lord was rumored to have a Tyrant Body, but it had never been confirmed.
If the baby had a Tyrant Body, then everything would change.
Outside of the Mo Estate, people showed Mo Seris respect, but it was only due to the Mo Family behind him. After all, the Mo Family was one of the five major forces of Brightsteel Town.
When he was within its walls, he was an ordinary presence.
However, this was only for the present moment.
Mo Seris could only imagine what would happen if he brought forward an infant with a physique that was on par with the City Lord. How much prestige would he gain? How many merits would he accrue?
It was incredibly far-flung, a thought that was too embarrassing for the average person to consider, but it was too intoxicating for him to stop indulging it.
There were hundreds of towns and thousands of villages in the Black Mountain Dominion, but only one Black Mountain City, and only one Black Mountain City Lord.
If he could really bring back a Tyrant Body, then the Mo Family would be forced to fulfill his every wish, if for no other reason than to demonstrate how it rewarded contributions, and to motivate other family members.
So, what reward could he get?
