Tsuchigumo {2}

"Rain? It's not raining. What are you talking about, Ikki?"

"Huh?"

Then everyone except me and Kuroka disappeared from view.

"A barrier?! Again?!"

"We've been transported to a different dimension!"

While Kuroka and I were freaking out, things changed even more.

A massive, violent aura was erupting from underground up ahead.

"Oh hell no! Don't tell me that's...!"

"We're totally caught up in this! That rain was probably 'fox's wedding'—a type of spiriting away!"

Like some kind of stealth teleportation magic?!

"Why did we get caught up in it?!"

"They probably found the tsuchigumo and sealed the area so it couldn't escape into the ley lines. This barrier seems designed to let anyone with a certain level of aura enter from outside!"

I see, so the small fry would be useless anyway, and it only pulls in the skilled fighters...

Then the tsuchigumo appeared—huge, maybe 40-something feet tall. It looked like a six-armed oni with a spider's face. The tsuchigumo turned its attention to us nearby.

"Hah? Just you two? Whatever, that female looks like she might be worth fighting. Die!"

It immediately came swinging at us. No questions asked! Where's the backup?! Does it take time to enter this special barrier?!

Kuroka and I split left and right to dodge, but it was close. If that attack hadn't been aimed at Kuroka, it might've hit me!

The tsuchigumo charged toward Kuroka like I didn't even exist.

"Don't underestimate me nya!"

Kuroka instantly created over twenty copies of herself and unleashed a barrage of attacks mixing senjutsu, demon arts, magic power, and spells. Only some of those attacks were real, but each one was viciously powerful—however...

"Annoying little tricks!"

The tsuchigumo had some injuries, but it acted like they didn't matter. It charged straight through the barrage and swung its arm at high speed, wrapping it in massive demonic power.

A shockwave that blew away entire buildings erupted, erasing the copies and causing Kuroka's barrier to falter for just a moment.

"Hm!"

The tsuchigumo's fist broke through Kuroka's barrier and sent her flying—the moment I saw that, my mind went completely red.

"Ittou Shura!"

No strategy, nothing. I frantically activated Ittou Shura and slashed at its back with my right and left Zarich and Taurvi, but the tsuchigumo kept running toward Kuroka.

"Hold on, you bastard!"

I slashed at it while overtaking it and stood in its path—finally it noticed me and shifted its attention... no, its interest to me.

"Huh? You seem like you've got more fight in you than before. Fine, I'll crush you first."

The next moment, the tsuchigumo's fist was right in my face. Fast! That first attack was just a wakeup punch!

"Guh!"

I dodged completely, but just the shockwave sent me flying over 60 feet.

Damn, even a graze from that thing would make my whole body explode!

But where I landed after getting blown away, I could see Kuroka lying nearby. Looks like I ended up falling close to her.

Blood was flowing from a head wound, but there were no other obvious injuries. Probably because she'd put up a barrier—but she seemed to be unconscious.

In the slowed-down time, I could see the tsuchigumo about to charge at us.

What do I do?! Ittou Shura had about 40 seconds left. Verg Avesta would probably mean instant death if I missed by even a few inches. I didn't know how much wider the range of self-distraction had gotten since last time, and if I tried to get distance, it might kill Kuroka first.

Waiting for backup was way past being an option.

And that tsuchigumo's toughness! I'd barely cut it at first—even if it stood still for the rest of my time limit, I probably couldn't finish it off... but running away alone wasn't an option!

Then the answer was clear. Put all my remaining Ittou Shura time into a single strike! With that thought, I stood up and pointed my right Zarich at the tsuchigumo, hitting it with pure killing intent.

"Come on, tsuchigumo! I'm gonna cut you down with this one attack!"

"Well said! Come at me with that blade!"

I roared and pushed off with my right foot, flying at the tsuchigumo like a bullet! That step broke my right leg, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was the tsuchigumo's counter-punch coming to intercept me!

Even with strengthening so intense that blood was spraying from my whole body, this thing was probably matching me on pure instinct! It wasn't even looking at me!

I was already in midair, and even if I cut off its arm, my own arms would be useless after that!

So I took another step in midair...

That move messed up my left leg too, but it didn't matter! I crossed both arms and sliced off the tsuchigumo's head in a pincer motion.

…

"Gah!"

I flew behind the tsuchigumo with the momentum from cutting its head and crashed to the ground. Looks like my two-stage jump using a ki orb as a foothold worked.

A few seconds later, the tsuchigumo's head fell in front of me.

"Eek!"

Pure horror. But just when I thought we'd finally won, the severed head spoke to me: "Hahaha! That was fun. What's your name?" Straight-up horror.

"Don't worry, I really can't fight anymore... though if you want to keep going, I'll play."

"Arima Ikki."

"Got it. Let's fight again in a few hundred years."

With that, it disappeared... Wait! This guy's the type that comes back?! He course! he was like an evil dragon at the beginning!

But in a few hundred years, I'll be dead, right? No wait, if I reincarnate as a devil, will I fight him again? Not that reincarnation is set in stone... whatever. If Magari-sama is here when the barrier breaks, things should work out fine. For now, I'm gonna sleep.

And just like that, I casually dumped the cleanup on Magari and passed out.
