A few days later, while flying high above the Earth, Clark suddenly heard screaming and the sounds of explosions.
"Is someone fighting down there?"Clark muttered, peering downward.
"The Hulk?!"
His eyes sharpened as he spotted a green giant in shorts rampaging through the ground below.
"Alright, let's do this."
At that moment, Clark saw Banner heading toward a woman lying on the ground.
Having witnessed enough, Clark wasn't going to stand by while someone got hurt right in front of him. In the next second, he appeared between the woman and the approaching Hulk.
The Hulk, seeing someone suddenly standing in front of Betty, let out a furious roar and swung his right fist at Clark.
BANG!!!
But instead of launching Clark through the air like he expected, the punch landed squarely in Clark's palm and was stopped cold — like a regular person punching a concrete wall.
Clark didn't give Hulk another chance. After blocking the punch, he lifted his leg and kicked Hulk square in the chest.
The Hulk skidded backward like a plow, carving a deep trench in the grass.
Stumbling to his feet, Hulk shook his dazed head and let out another roar, then charged at Clark again.
Seeing him come, Clark grinned. Ever since arriving in the Marvel world, he'd been looking forward to this — a proper showdown with the Hulk. After all, beating up the green guy was practically a rite of passage for time travelers.
However, due to the recent release of the movie — or maybe its budget constraints — the Hulk at this stage wasn't that strong. His strength was estimated between 10 and 20 tons, rarely more. In the movie, he had to build up momentum to lift a vehicle, and military armored vehicles rarely weigh over 10 tons.
Clark, on the other hand, now had a base strength of several hundred tons.
So once the fight began, it quickly became clear that Hulk was outclassed — slower, weaker, and outmatched in every way except sheer durability. Clark had hoped for a real brawl, but this was just one-sided.
Still, disappointed or not, he wasn't going to let that stop him from winning.
When Hulk came charging, Clark didn't dodge. When fighting someone clearly weaker, sometimes standing your ground felt best. Maybe too good.
As Hulk got close, Clark flew forward and kicked him in the face. Yes — the face. Sure, there's a saying: "Don't hit the face." But Clark felt that hitting someone in the face was deeply satisfying.
Hulk was sent flying like a missile, soaring backwards at several times his incoming speed.
BOOM! RIP! CRASH!
Luckily, the grassy field was large. Hulk flew a hundred meters without hitting a building. Though the grass wouldn't recover any time soon.
While Clark was busy pummeling the green giant, a military helicopter appeared in the sky and opened fire — targeting the Hulk, technically, but Clark happened to be within the blast radius.
RATATATATAT
The bullets bounced off both of them like toys. Not only did they fail to pierce their skin — they didn't even tear their clothes.
Clark's suit was understandable — alien tech, bulletproof. But that pair of shorts Hulk wore? That was just a regular pair of street clothes. Other than some minor damage during transformations, they'd endured beatings, ground-pounding, and gunfire — and still stayed on.
Clark could only marvel at the miracle of those shorts.
While Clark was sighing in disbelief, Hulk noticed Betty hanging upside down from the chopper. Ignoring Clark, he rushed toward her to protect her from the hail of bullets.
"No! Cease fire, cease fire!"General Ross shouted urgently into the radio. After all, Betty was his daughter.
But whether it was the noise from the chopper or some other issue, the helicopter didn't respond. It kept firing.
Of course, with limited ammo, the guns fell silent after one burst.
Hulk grabbed a random metal slab from the ground and hurled it at the chopper.
Clark hadn't moved since the helicopter arrived. He'd come here to help, not to pick a fight with Hulk. But getting shot at when you're just helping? That was annoying — though he trusted Hulk would take care of it.
Sure enough, the slab struck the helicopter hard. The craft went spinning out of control. Though likely due to inertia, it crashed close to Hulk and exploded — a final, desperate attempt to hit him.
"Oh no — Betty!"
Ross, seeing the explosion, instinctively took two steps forward before halting, staring helplessly at the flames.
He thought she was gone. But as the fire faded, a silhouette emerged — Hulk, holding Betty safely in his arms.
Hulk glanced at the humans, then ran off with Betty in tow.
Ross wanted to send troops after them — but looked around and realized all of their vehicles had been trashed during the battle. They didn't even have a ride home, let alone the means to chase Hulk.
He looked again, then noticed Clark still standing nearby. Ross stormed over, furious.
"Why didn't you stop him?! How could you let him escape?! Huh?!"
"Haha. Uh, who are you again?"Clark, of course, knew. In the Marvel universe, this man danced more than anyone else — General Ross.
But Clark didn't like him. Ross was always toeing the line between good and villain. Never quite evil enough to be the bad guy, but bad enough to be shady. Miraculously, he was also one of the few characters who made it through the whole franchise alive.
"Who am I? I'm a general of the United States military! And I order you to help me track down the Hulk!"
Ross thought his rank would intimidate Clark.
After all, most people who saw Clark in a cape or suit naturally associated him with Superman — the comic book and movie version.
And that Superman? Lawful, principled, image-conscious. He followed the law, stood trial when accused, and never killed Earthlings — no matter how many alien villains he destroyed.
If he didn't hold back, Batman would've been toast long ago.
So seeing Clark in a suit made Ross arrogant.
"Hahaha, I'd like to ask — why should I listen to you?"
"Also, I just got shot multiple times by a machine gun. I'm feeling a bit... injured. I should go home and recover. Bye!"
Clark waved casually at Ross and the soldiers, then floated into the sky.
Seeing Superman wave goodbye, the soldiers behind Ross instinctively waved back.
Ross looked around and saw most of his men waving to Clark. His face turned even darker.
