Chapter 73 - Dinner with a Side of Disdain

The silence that followed Evelyn's declaration was deafening. Zara's mouth hung open like a fish gasping for air. Felix's smug expression crumbled into confusion.

"Your what?" Zara finally managed to whisper.

"My fiancé," Evelyn repeated, her voice steady despite the fury burning in her eyes.

I watched both of them struggle to process this information. Felix's face went through several emotions. Shock, disbelief, then something that looked like wounded pride.

"That's impossible," Zara said, shaking her head. "You're joking."

"I'm not joking."

"But he's—" Zara gestured helplessly at me. "He's so ordinary."

"There's nothing ordinary about him."

Felix recovered first. He straightened his tie and forced a laugh. "Come on, Evelyn. You don't have to pretend for our sake."

"Pretend?"

"Look, I get it. Maybe you hired someone to play your boyfriend. Some women do that to avoid awkward situations."

Evelyn's jaw tightened. "You think I hired an actor?"
