"Are you insane?" I stare at Chloe in complete disbelief. "You think I still want you back?"

"Don't you?"

Her voice carries a desperate edge that catches me off guard. The confident mask she was wearing moments ago starts to slip.

"No, Chloe. I don't."

"Liar."

"I'm with Scarlett now. She's everything you never were."

Chloe's face contorts with rage. "Everything I never was? Like what?"

"Loyal. Honest. Supportive. She stood by me when she thought I had nothing."

"Because she's stupid!"

"Because she has integrity. Something you wouldn't recognize."

Chloe steps back like I've struck her. "How dare you."

"How dare I what? Tell the truth?"

"Scarlett Hayes is nothing compared to me. She's plain. She's boring. She has no ambition."

"She's twice the woman you'll ever be."

"She doesn't even dress properly! Those cheap suits and drugstore makeup. Is that really what you want?"
