NASM: Chapter 54

"Who said I'd protect you?" Harumiko giggled, her cheeks flushed with happiness. She was completely overwhelmed with joy.

Hiroshi's words left Harumiko flustered and speechless, but their playful exchange was undeniably sweet.

"Okay, okay, the teacher's here. Let's stop talking now. We can talk later!" Hiroshi said, smiling as Asuma Sarutobi entered the classroom.

Harumiko composed herself and turned to see Asuma.

"Alright, everyone quiet down. Let's begin class. Did you all study and practice your jutsu during the break? Today, we'll be testing your abilities," Asuma announced from the front of the classroom.

"Seriously? A test on the first day?"

"Teacher, it's unnecessary. The last place will definitely be the dead last."

"Silence! I said we're having a test! Enough chatter! You few, assemble at Training Ground 1. Everyone else, follow me.

We'll have a 30-minute walk, and you must be back by evening!" Asuma snapped at the disruptive students.

"Alright, let's go. We don't want to be late!" Hiroshi patted Harumiko's arm, smiling.

Several students noticed this, grumbling, "Damn it! I don't want to be in a group with that guy! If I am, I'll make him pay for what he did to our goddess."

Harumiko stood and walked with Hiroshi to Training Ground 1.

It was considerably large.

Training Ground 1 was a vast, open-air space with individual changing rooms and numerous trees, each bearing several scattered targets.

"Wow, they've added a lot of targets since our last visit! Some are directly in front of us, some are off to the side, and some are completely hidden behind the trees!" Hiroshi observed upon arrival.

Hitting the obscured targets would be extremely challenging, requiring expert kunai-throwing skills.

"Alright, the first test is kunai throwing. You can use any type of kunai. There are ten targets, and you have ten kunai. Your final score is the total points from all targets hit."

"Seriously? The distance is so far! How are we supposed to hit them?"

"It's supposed to be ten targets, but I only see eight. Where are the other two?"

Asuma, losing his patience with the noisy students, shouted, "If you keep making noise, the loudest person gets a score of zero.

The eight targets you see are the normal ones. The other two are hidden behind the trees. Hitting them will be extremely difficult!"

The students fell silent, fearing a zero score. However, the thought of two hidden targets filled them with apprehension.
